Avalanche Mobile launches texting monitoring software for parents
Cellular News reports that Avalanche Mobile
has launched the Avalance Instant Messaging Filter (IMF), a software platform that lets parents monitor their kids'
texting activities, and even suspend messaging functions during school hours or any other time they deem necessary.
Parents can also whiltelist themselves or others so they can get through during downtimes -- other messages that are
sent during those times are held and delivered later. According to Avalance, "the IMF is installed
transparently on the existing SS7 links, allowing it to operate without interfering with existing voice
and data traffic." No word yet on pricing or availability.[Via Textually.org]

I would guess this would be a service you pay for on top of cell plans? or is it a firmware upgrade via a cable? Anyone know how this gets on the kids phones?
not really sure whats the whole point in this. I mean, they can still call people and talk about whatever they want. Wouldnt (shouldnt) this qualify as a phone tap?
If i were in the market for something like this for my kids, the first thing i would ask is if it also recorded phone calls, which would be illegal, so it kind of just seems pointless.
I want the opposite, I want a service that guarantees that all my TXT is encryped and that no one can ever read my smileys other than the people I send them to.
i dont even understand the need to attach a cell phone, a gps system and what else to your child. has society gotten so bad that its degraded to a point where you need to start monitoring his or her text messages. you might as well attatch a large GPS helmet with a siren while youre at it.
if you give a child the ability to send text messages, that means youre trusting him to do the right thing. its all about upbringing.
most of us grew up without all these things and none of us really needed all these devices. theyre supposed to make life easier - not paranoid.
