Inventec and Arima join the Windows Mobile family

Not that we have anything against HTC (on the contrary, we pretty much want one of everything the company makes), but competition and diversity are good things, so we think the market can only benefit from the fact that two more Taiwanese manufacturers -- Inventec and Arima -- have joined the Windows Mobile fold. And this definitely puts Inventec (the company's rumored "Mercury" smartphone is pictured above) in an enviable position, since it's said to be the ODM behind some of Palm's recent PalmOS-based devices. If Palm decides to standardize production of its "p" and "w" lines using one manufacturer, it's pretty clear who they'll choose.

I looks ver BlackBerry-esque in shape. I prefer the larger screen with better orientation on the Wizard. The slide-out keyboard is nicer too, considering it is in use all the time.

I agree that it is ugly. I hope this is just the demo color sceem and not the production model.

Do we have a model number? I know there are a few geeks at HoFo who would like to do a thread on the debut of this one. ;-)

Anyone see the thread on the Cingular 8125 (HTC Wizard)? It's a monster.

Are you suggesting Inventec makes (or has made) any of the Treo 600/650/700 series devices? They do not and they never have. Palm has always used Inventec for their low-end PDAs -- namely the Zire series. HTC builds the 650 and the 700, and Soletron or Celestica (I forget which) was the first OEM of the 600.

On the other hand, Inventec does have a lot of experience building regular mobile phones, as they have their own brand "OKWAP" that is in the top 3 or 4 in terms of marketshare in Taiwan.
