Verizon enables RAZR V3c pic transfers over USB and Bluetooth
In what
seems like a complete 180 for a company fond of disabling dial-up networking and simultaneous WiFi and voice usage on
their handsets, Verizon has apparently enabled the OBEX
Bluetooth profile in the recently-released 0.1.15.04 RAZR V3c firmware update. As RAZR owners are well aware, the previous two firmware updates had
disabled and then completely removed OBEX, which gives customers a free way to transfer their files to a PC, most
importantly their pictures. The new firmware not only enables OBEX, say HowardForums users, but actually
allows pic transfers over a wired USB connection as well using the Motorola Phone Tools software. Having seen Verizon
has take such a shocking step following their change of heart on DUN,
we're expecting reports anytime of Apple opening up the iPod, Sony dumping the MemoryStick, and the HD-DVD and Blu-ray
camps coming to a super-last-minute compromise.

Hell froze. Gasp.
holy crap, you couldn't do that before?
one more reason to laugh at verizon
Such mis-information. Here's the sordid tale folks:
The original firmware, .02 had OBEX. The first update, .03, removed all the OBEX code. The second update that was just released, .04, does not enable OBEX, it just doesn't remove it if you have it already.
So if you go from .02 to .04 you keep OBEX. If you go from .03 to .04 you don't get OBEX back.
So gee, thanks Verizon.
Meeeeeeeh! Why crow about it? OBEX should have been left alone from the start! Looks like someone is finally realizing that (1) cellular is competitive especially since other mobile operators have long offered the same models without being gimped. And (2) the customer is not you enemy!
I jsut got a new E815 and when I syned it with my mac file transfer came up and worked too.... Go verizon!
YES, this is misinformation and is getting spread around. (I first saw it on Digg.)
#3 is totally right -- so please don't believe for 1 second Verizon isn't the same money greedy company they always have been.
Dammit.
Good thing I got the stupid thing free. :(
My Razr is the one of the unfortunate ones that was stripped entirely of OBEX....is there a way to put it back on?? If so, I could use some tips and the 411.
for Dave and the rest of the unforunate
