SavaJe releases Jasper S20 Java phone

To call this new Jasper S20 from SavaJa much more than a Java phone would be doing it a disservice. It's basically a vehicle for introducing the SavaJe mobile Java platform to the world, with all sorts of developer functionality to allow for gaming, multimedia and other possibilities. As far as a phone goes, the S20 is a tri-band GSM unit, with a 2.2-inch 176 x 220 pixel screen, 1.3 megapixel camera, USB 2.0, Bluetooth 1.2, and miniSD expansion. There's only 4 hours of talk time and 200 hours of standby listed, and the phone is a bulky 0.8 inches thick, but if you're a Java developer or you just like dated tech running a relatively untested software platform, the Jasper S20 might be the phone for you.

At first look I thought: "What a kiddi-phone" but changed my mind after a few sec. It actually looks pretty cool and nice. Looks like a strawberry Ice-screm. I wonder if it taste as good as it looks? :)

I'm okay with new platforms, but this thing is just poor use of real estate. The layout is horrendous considering the size of it.

If you want to 'cut new edges', then at least put some thought into ergonomics.

trust engadhetmobile to say naty things about anything non-MS. C'mon, give the guys a break. and what makes you think Java is dated technology? i think the mobile of the future will have only a browser (which may very well be Java Based) and you may select services online.

I think what Paul Miller was talking about was the dated phone hardward (tech). The specs for that phone are pretty weak. They are inline with any number of midrange handsets that are on the market today.

Well, the Sidekick has been out for years and Danger's platform is all Java.
