We've been seeing warnings about guns disguised as cellphones for so long that we long assumed the weapons were urban legends akin to the stories about telemarketers building a database of cellphone numbers and Bill Gates sharing his fortune. Turns out, however, that the guns do indeed exist, and apparently originated in Europe around 2000. And now, according to the New York Police Department, they may be making their way across the Atlantic. According to the New York Post, The NYPD has issued a warning about the hidden weapons, and has circulated a description of them to station houses. There's no word that any of the weapons have actually been seen in NYC, but police are being told to be on the lookout for them at locations such as courthouses. So, if you're heading downtown for jury duty and don't want to endure getting your brand new
Walkman phone taken apart because it looks suspicious, you may want to just leave it at home. Oh, and Bill, we're still waiting for our check.
I expected something like this to hit soon. When you enter the judicial buildings here - they ask you to turn the device on, perform a basic function like show them a telephone number and call someone (or begin to call someone - i.e. get a ring from the other end).
If you can develop a phone that performs all the phone functions, and includes a little 9mm 'handset' - you should be in the professional world doing that sort of thing.

They are definately real, and there are videos that have been around for years. Cellphones, beepers, both containing guns, stun circuitry, and poisons. Just "google" it.
umm ever heard of the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation..? I guess donating tons and tons of money and winning like persons of the year for time magazine because of it or something isnt enough...
Dang - I am currently having a new SLVR case CNC'd to hold a Benchmade automatic knife blade and spring mechanism. Oh well.
I have been involved in security at Nuclear Plants for years. These things are real, they do exist, and they are pretty cool to see. I seriously doubt there are many circulating in the US, I suspect that the NYPD finally caught up with the homeland security advisory that came out about these a couple of years ago.
Hey Logan, chill out. No one said the Gates' didn't give to charity or foundations. This time you are the one in the dark. There is an email hoax that has been going around since 1997 re: Bill giving money to people if they forward a specific email. "winning like persons of the year for time magazine because of it or something"
Person Of The Year is not a prize like the Nobel Peace Prize. Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin have been named person of the year by TIME Magazine in the past
I said "His bowtie is really a camera"...
I'm from europe and the only thing I ever noticed about this is when I took an airplane in April 2000. I had a brand new Ericsson T18s and I was asked to switch it on an make a call with it, because they were warned about cellphones could be a hidden gun or bomb.
