Not long ago we reported that Evan Guttman's pal had lost her Sidekick, which somehow mysteriously wound up in the hands of a girl in Corona, Queens, who
used the stolen device only to find her
self-portraits showing up all over the internets. Well, all's well that ends well for Ivanna, the woman to whom the Sidekick originally belonged. After braving threats from the Sidekick swiper's brother, an MP, and basically outing the family to the general public for not simply returning the phone (which resulted in limited harassment, and Engadget editors TPing their home), Evan and Ivanna turned the identified parties into the police, resulting in the arrest of Sasha Gomez, the young lady pictured right, on charges of possession of stolen property in the fifth degree. Now, we're not sure anyone should really have been arrested for grabbing an ownerless Sidekick out of a taxi and keeping it for your own -- we think some community service might do the trick -- but let it be known to all you would-be criminals out there: stealing phones isn't just bad, it's bad for you.
That is freaking awsome. Some people just get what they deserve.
T-Mobile should have invited Ivanna and her investigative buddy to the SK3 release par-tay.
Ageed.
Stupid babies need the most attention.
Awesome! People who keep devices when they KNOW who the owner is are idiots anyway.
They comitted a crime. The fact that it was a cell phone does not change that. All people who steal should be put in jail for their crimes. These people are no different.
Ryan:
come on...did you even follow the storyline? I agree with your "...we're not sure anyone should really have been arrested for grabbing an OWNERLESS Sidekick out of a taxi and keeping it for your own ..." the key word there being OWNERLESS.
BUT: the owner/owner rep:
1) identified themselves properly; 2)made a respectful attempt to get it back; 3)offered reward; 4) was threatened physically 5) gave the thieves ...yea, that's what they are... almost a week to do the right thing, but to no avail.
2 yrs. hard labor would have been justifiable just to set an example.
I agree. WTF ive found plenty of phones and have returned them back to the customers for a reasonable fee. and the customers arent jerks at all. i figued some little rich girl lost her phone and she hired a private detective. and now some innocent girl has a record because of this. shame shame shame you all
But you guys arent looking at the other side of this story, that girl has been harrased, humiliated, embaressed, defamed, not only to the community she lives in but the WORLD! I think that Ivana and her friend who made that site should also be punished, it was a stupid phone, do u think it was worth ruinning this girls life?
Alan: Yes.
that sucks, i hate when people call the police. she should have chalked up the loss and bought another one.

Are you a moron? Did you read the correspondence between the two parties? Read before you post buddy. She knowingly kept the stolen property... ad nauseum.
