Cingular joins OMTP group
The relatively young Open Mobile Terminal Platform (OMTP) consortium, a group dedicated to pontificating on the finer points of user interfaces and APIs for all things mobile, is welcoming a new member this week. Cingular has joined Hutchison, Orange, and SK Telecom -- among others -- to work on standardization initiatives that (theoretically) should bring about consistent user experiences and reduced costs for carriers and manufacturers. Verizon is not a member, so hopefully their much-maligned standard blood red UI won't be finding its way into OMTP's recommendations.

The one to benefit the most from that group is Orange. Their homescreen that they add onto Nokias is freaking ridiculous. It's unstable, and not as useful as Nokia's GUI, which Nokia spent $$$$$ on developing. The Orange homescreen, on the other hand, seems like something some comp sci major made during the weekend. I hope Cingular takes nothing from Orange.
its about time for one of these.
YES! Well boyz (and girl ;^) we now have more "WEIGHT" and a new outlet to socialize our stuff. (i.e. CTIA, GSMA, SIG, OMTP, etc.).

FPTO - working hard on better UIs and APIs for the tech geek community since 1984...
hopefully, cingular will now be able to buy a clue (thanks to reduced costs on their part) and import some of the awesome phones that can be had in eurasia.
anyone else realize these carriers have orange as their corporate color? no joke, orange, hutch, cingular and sk all have orange colored logos. wonder whether it's just a coincidence or not?
