FCC approves Samsung SGH-i607, Cingular launch imminent?
Ahh, so that's what happened to the Q3 launch of Samsung's i607, eh Cingular? With FCC approval now out of the way let's hope the long wait is nearly over for this quad-band GSM and dual-band UMTS/HSDPA Smartphone. As you might recall, the i607 Blackjack runs Windows Mobile Smartphone up on that QVGA display and features a 1.3 megapixel camera around back, Bluetooth, microSD slot for expansion, and a slim, albeit rather unappealing 1/2-inch thick shell. So what's keeping ya Cingular, go ahead and launch already... pretty please, with sugar. [Via PhoneArena]

With Cingular, imminent usually means sometime within in the next quarter or two.
Seriously, this is driving me insane. My 9100 just crapped out and I'm forced to use an old crappy outdated phone in the meantime. Cingular...I HATE YOU!
Is Cingular really that bad? I was thinking of switching to Cingular from Sprint just for their phones.
Of course it depends who you ask, but Cingular beats out T-mobile (coverage-wise, both custoemr service offerings suck) in my opinion.
Cingular beats all the competition when it comes to the number of Windows Mobile devices released. With the currently released 8125, 2125, 3125 and the much anticipated 8525 and SGH i607, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint don't compare. In my opinion, they are leading the pack bringing the top Windows Mobile devices to market.
Cingular tells you they have the fewest amount of dropped calls. Of course they don't tell you that you'll have a heck of a time trying to even dial during peak use times. Every time during lunch in the big city I work in I cannot get a connection to dial nor to receive a call. POS network if you ask me. I will be switching soon.
Ive been waiting so long for this phone, looking to replace my Xda Exec. Some bad news which I hope is not true but I read somewhere on the internet that Cingular was going to be taking the Second Camera out of this phone, as well as Wi-Fi. I hope this is not true, it would ruin two of the best features of this phone
Please, for putty's sake, JUST GIVE ME A PHONE WITH UMTS AND A FULL KEYBOARD!!
When when when when when when when?
i607? I got that!!
Cingulars tenative release date is Nov 16th. I spoke to a rep over the weekend and they already have it on their paperwork.
I hope so, using Nokia E61 and LG CU500, tired of switching sim back and forth. I already have a contract with Cingular so I'll pay full retail don't care or buy i600 with wifi and cameras.
I just spoke to Cingular business and they have no information on the I607 - Does anyone have any new information on the release date?
Hey guys.... the reason that cingular waits so long upon release is that they wanna test and make sure that they're not getting a POS... so they put their phones through at least a 30-60 test period and if they have any probles with the device it gets sent back and fixed... I saw at least 4 N62s in here before it got released... well that they had the V3i back in Feb or March and it just was released.... it's because that phone had so many problems and they wouldn't release it until Motorola fixed it... so yeah I'd rather wait a few months then get a POS out of the gate that freezes or drops calls everytime.... I know you're probably thinking I' biased but I promise you I have worked or been a customer of all the other carriers and there is a reason why I'm here and still here....
J From cingular:
have you heard a release date?
Seriously... does no one read the other posts?
I reconfirmed today. the tennative release date (at least here in tampa) is Nov 16th.
How some people make it through the day without getting killed for having no common sense is beyond me.
Anyone have an idea on what the retail price will be?
No mini USB sucks. I hate the proprietary connections Samsung uses. Other than that it should have just about everything you could want except a touch screen, and add-on apps are a little less available for smartphone OS than pocket pc os. If they could come up with this form factor with a touch screen / full pocket pc os, that would be about the best device possible.
I just had the Samsung rep in my store and he said it will drop before thanksgiving. He had the live version and its ridiculously sleek and functional. I have been waiting on the Treo 750 for Cingular and it looks like the will only get the 680 for a while. This is definitely my new phone when it's released!
As everyone else on this post I too have been waiting for a Slim Windows Mobile Phone which is UMTS/HSDPA capable & has a nice QWERTY keyboard and a Blackberry style scroll (I gave the HTC Dash a pass since it has a weird jogger scroll).
It would be nice to see wifi on it as well since I have wifi at both my office & home (which is much faster; we have Edge only since we dont have umts here yet). Can anyone confirm if it does have wifi?
I dont care about having a camera on my phone so the dual camera thing is not really a big concern for me. But I would be nice if I can load Skype on the WM5 Smartphone. Have someone been successfully able to load Skype on a WM5 Smartphone? (obviously I wont be able to use it until after we get UMTS near RDU but I was just curious -- it would be quite awesome (especially when I travel overseas -- the cost calling home from the phone is ridiculous)
And why not end with the one question everyone has been asking - When is it coming out???? I know there were mentions (on this post) of middle to end November -- is it still true?
I will be watching to see if someone wants to post a reply. Thanks in advance.

I bought the Motorola Q a while ago. I did have to customize it quite a bit, but now it works like a champ.
I play old NES games on my PocketNes emmulator all the time. Tetris, Mike Tyson's boxing, Street Fighter II, Contra, etc. I love that shit. Gaming wise it's AWESOME.
...Everything else is, OK. You HAVE TO reorganize the Start Menu so it makes sense. As delivered items are layed out ackwardly.
You also need to get a 2GB SD-Card for software. The Q's memory won't hold up against all the apps you'll want.
The apps you NEED are...
1) a simple registry editor.
2) a word processing application.
...I chose to customize my homescreen to simply display the date and time in a large font. The clutter of the smartphone's home screen always bothered me.
Aside from that I haven't had to do a whole lot to it. I constantly stream radio off the internet, download music, and audio books, etc.
I really love the Q. It does need to be tweaked, but it's not that hard and IMHO it still beats the other phones I've seen. I especially like the keyboard. Some people have complained about that, but I don't know why. At first the keys seem ackward but once they get worn in it's a very ncie experiance. I can type extreamly fast on the Q. ...In fact, I typed this!
How does this compare to the SGH-i320?
The design of the i320 looks way better than this cingular version - are there any other differences?
I saw it, I blinked, I bought it. Everything, it has everything
The Blackjack is amazing! I found a community with forums and tweak for the phone, check it out if you have one http://www.myblackjackphone.com
