So all in all, access spends a boat load of money to buy palm, essentially ditches there O.S for some fresh "linux goodness." Ok I'm with them so far, but now they ditch the name palm source ? I thought the only reason why they bought Palm source was so that they would be able to brand thier O.S as something that the masses would understand... What did they get out of the Palm Source acquisition? Patents? I'm confused...

matt

Comments on PalmSource, RIP: 2003 - 2006

The new logo isn't Web2.0 compliant.

Jeremy

Comments on PalmSource, RIP: 2003 - 2006

From what I remember, wasn't palmsource already working on a linux update prior to their acquistition by access? And I remember there was some deal struck between palmone and palmsource for palmone to take the palm name solely for themselves. Can someone correct me on this if my memory is off?

Lorm

Comments on PalmSource, RIP: 2003 - 2006

A quick note, this is not new information, it was setup at the time of purchase. When Access acquired the company "PalmSource" they never acquired the name. Palm, PalmOne, and PalmSource are names owned by Palm. So when Access purchased PalmSoure, they acquired a product not a name.... anyways... as for the linux side of the thing, PalmSource had started down that road before Access swept them up. And yes I agree with the post. I'm a Palm OS fan, I could care less what it is called, just finish the linux version so we can buy it.

nick

Comments on PalmSource, RIP: 2003 - 2006

I guess we're not getting that firmware update for our 700p's, huh...

noodle
