Motorola ROKR E6 gets FCC blessing

We certainly don't want to get anyone's hopes up over a possible US release -- because frankly, with GSM 1900 the only American band in the box, we don't see it happening -- but Motorola's Linux-tastic ROKR E6 just breezed through the FCC. The stylus-based device shares the design cues used extensively through Motorola's mainstream lineup, coming off with a polished look. Add in the 2-megapixel cam and the media capabilities foretold by its "ROKR" moniker, and this is a little bundle of open-source joy that we definitely wouldn't mind seeing hop the pond -- if Moto can find it in its heart to pack in a UMTS radio or two.

and the average consumer will relate and be able to recognize names like that. how many AVERAGE consumers know most nokias by their numerical moniker? it's a great strategy and is clearly working.

I own a RAZR V3c (hacked to get rid of the awful Verizon interface, of course!), and it's a very solid phone that also happens to have a decent design.

I agree with you chris...The V3c isn't bad, once it is flashed to alltel, which is exactly what I have done. Did it about two months ago...best thing I've done since buying the phone last december.

That music button does look upside-down, even though notes can be written that way, could it be an overly cautious Moto avoiding Apple's TM wrath?

P.S. I have a KRZR, and I love it. If you don't like Moto, get a nokia or something and pound sand :P

ok motorola has some crap phones but i own an e680i which runs linux and its fantastic! it has real player and everything its touchscreen too. and this rokr e6 is suppose to be a newer version, thinner, better, camera and some other stuff so id expect it to be great

Unfortunately, Motorola's support of their Linux based phones is TERRIBLE. I had the A780, which was the flip phone with the keypad on the outside and the touch screen under the flip, and the only one so far it have EDGE. It had so much potential, but Motorola never officially released updates for it and its brother phones like the E680 and A768i. I would probably still have it if the bugs it had could have been fixed. I don't expect the E690 to be supported any better, and what the hell is up with no high speed data option at all?

Well luckily i get motorola for wholesale prices
i think this phone will be my choice instead of buying a nokia n73 or some other nokia overpriced crap like n93.
P.S "i still think nokia is king but overprice"
2 mp is awesome and it will look very good on this screen also unlike some other phones were there megapixel rate is better than the screen quality itself so motorola rokr E6 will be mine though plus i live in Australia and will get it before the US commercilly sells AWESOME.

I'm thinking of getting this phone instead of a Treo because I need a phone that can be a PDA from time to time. But I'm a bit confused when it comes to the OS which is Linux. Does this mean that whatever medical software that I want to install on this system has to be supported by Linux, or can I use any of them? I'm not a techy so please don't be too harsh.

Hello Friends
Its a good mobile phone. I have purchased for 13,450.00 INR(Ordinary) from MobileNxt, Mysore on 09th Sep 2007. Its manufacturing date is May 07. Before buying the mobile you should see manufacturing date and box seal is not opened. That will ensure your mobile for good battery backup and bug free.
Ordinary pack contains MotoRockr, Wired Motorola Stereo head phone, 1GB microSD card with SD tray, 1000mah battery in separate cover, Motorola Charger, USB Cable & 2CD.
There was 30 songs already stored in my memory card. I faced some problem in navigating the songs by scrolling, it got stucked up temporary during scrolling. Actually that was not a problem, I deleted all the 30 songs and freshly loaded 250 mp3 songs. The scrolling works fine with 250 mp3 songs.
Battery backup is 2-3 days with out less usage. Don't charge the battery always, it will kill ur battery life. Avoid USB interface frequently as it goes to charging when u plug. Better charge it using ordinary charger when the battery meter indicates 20%. Charge it fully until the charging getting disconnected automatically(~2hrs).
The internal features are same of MotoMingA1200. Don't buy MotoMing-low battery backup, old model(new one is not available in market, battery will discharge in the pack unless it is been used in short period of months), Output mp3 sound & ring sound are very less, Price: 11,450.00 INR, manufacturing Sept 2006.
MotoRock really rocks- good business card reader, sound output is more than sony erricson W810i, touch screen response is good, voice clarity is good, 2mp camera is well in outdoor, unlimited voice recording(choose storage location to sd memory), 5Hrs video storage in 3gp with 15fps 320:480 screen resolution(good to see the video in mobile itself). Internal memory is only 8MB, always choose jar installation to memory card. Try to avoid usage of phone memory. My 1GB card is full loaded now, processing response is amazing as compared to Nokia N series. It has fabulous features as compared with same price range of sony errison & Nokia. Data transfer is very fast as compared with Nokia N95. I have used N95 for 3 months, but this Rockr having more features than N95 neglecting 5mp camera & video.
Rockr reads .doc, .ppt, .xls, .pdf- but first page can be viewed by its viewer. I need to get other jar application of good reading and editing.
FM radio speaker output is very good as compared to N95. Mp3 sound from speaker of Rockr is 80% of N95. But in headphones Rockr rocks than N95.
Overall Rockr is worth as compared with the price and competers.
Rockr premium pack is costing 2750.00INR extra. It contain 2GB card & Motorola S9 Stereo Headphone. Stereo headphone have lot of bad remarks like non water sweat resistant. audio lags with video in phone, since the mobile have to handle both bluetooth and real player.
Hand writing recognitions and composing messages in hand writing is very good, fast and stylish.
Asphalt2 Car gaming is very good. Its gaming processing is amazing. I played the game with hearing mp3 in its real player. Two process real player and game handled very well without any lag or sound quality reduction. This shows that its good enough to handle multi process operation. Same processing in N95 is very shame.
Calender & meeting can be set notified in ur rockr in a good way. It is much user friendly. I will post more feedback later. MotoRockr is worth buying for me.

Hi Flockz,
Rockr touch screen is so sensitive. Cold lamination or screen protectors for the screen can be used for better touch screen life. Mine is still waiting for the screen protector to be fixed on it. But temporarly you can use the screen wraper that was fixed on the screen very first. The white lettering(indicating the way to put the battery in the mobile) on its top by Using slightly volatile or mild detergent for remove the white marking in the temporary plastic wrapper for the screen, so that the display will be visible properly. Care should be taken to the screen while removing the white marking or other wise do the same after taking out from the mobile. Srolling the contacts/mp3 songs can be done easily by using stylus. If u find difficulty in scrolling use the keypad up/down, left-right keys. Up/Down for one by one scrolling. Left-Right for page by page scrolling. It is much user friendly like Nokia Mobiles. Anyway its good be practice touch screen in Rockr before going for Apple iPhone next year 2008! Just now I have downloaded the themes for iPhone and ZmPlayer for my Rockr.
