Palm Treo 680 and Cingular 8525 price and release!
Ah yes, this is what we've been so eagerly awaiting. Enough pussyfooting around with the Palm Treo 680 and HTC Hermes / 8525 coming to Cingular -- we know they're due. We need prices, we need dates. And according to what appears to be a recent Cingular marketing presentation, we've got 'em:

- Treo 680: $424.99 straight, $349.99 one year, $249.99 one year with unlimited data (and $100 rebate), $274.99 two year, $174.99 two year with unlimited data (and $100 rebate; their ad, however, shows a $200 list price, but it's good to know we can count on around two Benjamins. Expect it November 5th (tentative).
- Cingular 8525: $559.99 straight, $484.99 one year (not including $50 rebate if included with unlimited data), $409.99 two year (also not including that same rebate); expect it October 29th.

Oh for the day when the Blackberry 8800 is available from Cingular. What a great Christmas present this would be to the business professionals.
yay...about time *putting 8125 ebay*
Cingular is a little slow eh, 8525 TOMORROW?
I personally find the boths prices very high a the moment especially th 680, It is basicly a upgraded 650
As for the 8525 expensive for a 1st party branded phone too
Ryan, That's great news for Palm OS "hunters", but what we all want to know is when the Treo 750 hits stores shelves in the US. Hoping to see it soon!
I agree with #3. I think the Treo 680 is very expensive for that it is. Not slim at all. At 0.8 inch deep, it's closer in bulkyness to the 8525 than the Q or Dash.
Cingular gave me no choice. I'll have to switch to T-mobile and get a Dash or Pearl when my commitment ends next month.
Now why are you going to do that. Dont give up Gold for silver. Besides we are also getting the pearl too. T-Mobile's exclucivity is comming up at the end of november. So hang on.
I think It was the only difference was the OS which can be upgraded and maybe that is looks nicer with no antenna.
Especially expensive with the Q for $99 after MIR and the 750w for only $299. and the Pearl and Dash only $199 at T-Mobile.
I mean seriously I heard 680 being FREE with 2 year plan over at Boy Genuis Repoorts, but $200 for a $50 Ebay phone, ROFL
I thought Palm said that the 680 was going to be competitively priced so as to attract people that might not normally purchase a smartphone! $430?! Are you serious? That's not competitive. Neither is $175 when you are stuck paying and additional $40/month for the data plan for two years. That's $960 over that time span. What a rip!!
$199 is bit pricey for this bulky smart phone. I'm going to get Nokia E61 instead. Much slicker phone, not to mention built in wifi.
guys, its not coming out today. the phone hasn't even been approved yet. I don't know what engadget is smoking
...meanwhile, at a Cingular board meeting:
"We need to offer one of these newfangled 'treo' devices!"
"Well, we have the choice of two- The 750v and the 680."
"The 750v can access our broadband network, is smaller, and runs Windows Mobile 5!"
"Or the 680, which is as thick as a Campbell's soup can, runs an OS which when described as "deprecated" is complementing it, AND the best part, it doesn't use any of our new network features! Why would anyone want broadband in a smartphone?!"
Okay, so i called around to a bunch of cingular stores, because i really dont care pricewise about the 8525...im buying it either way....but heres what i found out...a few of the stores tried to play dumb - "i dont know what your talking about...8525?" - some were cooperative saying they knew it was supposed to come out towards the end of this month...or early next month...and then i got what i was looking for - "yeah im not sure of a release date, but were getting the shipments in and they should be on the shelves this week, next week at the latest" :-D
I'm in the same boat as you, Neverwork. It's just far and away the best smartphone, feature-wise. Thanks for calling around and getting that info! Appreciate it.
yeahh i saw that phone before it was released back in i think august...and considered buying it unlocked for the retail of like $750 but opted out of that, and then see that its now coming to cingular! cant wait! woot! just really disappointed that it wasnt released today....especially the fact that i called 15+ stores hahah
Like I said the guys at Cingular, must be retarded. The release 2 smart phones, One is a repackage 650 and the the ither is nice......Wait no 36... and how abouy we slap a $275 and $400 price tags on them respectively,. Yep..... next to the $99 Q and $199 Dash, we should have floods of customers rolling in the doors
I work for Best Buy and today I was doing some research looking into our inventory system to find any info on the 8525 and it has a street date of 11/05/06 just telling you guys what I saw in our best buy inventory system not too sure if this is for real or whats the deal but thats whats there.
I am almost to the point of just going out and getting a TyTN but I have waited this long... I recently noticed Cingular had a new messaging plan and I upgraded but it involved me contacting support to get the old plan out. For some reason the web wouldnt let me do it. I asked the rep about the 8525 and they said that there was no specific date given for the release but that it would be sometime near Christmas. I don't know what to believe anymore. Ive seen posts where it was supposed to be released end of sept. Then the word was mid Oct. Now its sometime within the week or so? ARRRRRGH! I dont get why cingular is so iffy about their releases. I think it builds up a lot of frustration amongst their users. I am also looking at an unlocked E61 like the post made by #8.
Alright, I went to Cingular today, and they were told that it would be released the last week of October. It's not November 5th, and no word yet. Black Friday is not too far off, and I'm hoping to avoid the mobs of shoppers before then... Will it come out this week? We shall see. I'm tired of this old RAZR.
I looked at cingular's website this morning and have noticed that under their plans section they have added a data option for smart phones.
The smart phone connect with unlimited w/Xpress mail for 19.99 monthly. Included data (unlimited) Canadian data (0.015/KB) International data (0.0195/KB).
The talk was that their monthly internet plans would be too expensive. Some suggesting up to 40 bucks. I am not technical savy but would love to know if this plan makes sense.
Cingular releases Samsung Blackjack and Cingular 8525, no treo 680 :(
Check out Cingular website for details.
Palm Canada has no idea when they will get it up here. Do you?
