Cingular's rebate forms are about as accurate at predicting the carrier's releases as weathermen are at predicting blizzards, but nevertheless, there are several juicy tidbits in the latest form (dated November 5 to December 30, 2006) worth pointing out. First up, the Samsung ZX30 and
LG CU400 make appearances, both presumably destined to bring yet more clamshell love to the HSDPA game, and it'll be interesting to see how the ZX30 slots in against its
SYNC stablemate. Also showing up to the party is the CU500v -- a phone we know nothing about -- but we're guessing it represents some sort of incremental upgrade to the
CU500 (video calling, perhaps?). Next up, the
SGH-i607 seems to have been officially christened the "Blackjack" for Cingular's release of the slim, 3G, QWERTY smartphone. Finally, the
Treo 680 and
750 get some rebate love with both models coming in camera and non-camera variants. Conspicuously missing from the form, though, is the hotly-anticipated
Nokia N75, suggesting that American S60 fans might be waiting until early '07 to get some 3G action.
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]
Update: Looking closer at the form, we find a couple other goodies in the mix -- the
Motorola K1 KRZR (in its GSM flavor, of course), the V3r (basically a red
V3i, we hear), and the Pearl, a phone we'd
previously heard wouldn't drop until 2007. Oh, and if you look
really close, the ZX30 actually reads "ZX20" (how boring!). [Thanks again, everyone]
Yea, for the record, this is old news and was on Howardforums about a week ago. And also there is no reference anywhere to a Samsung Zx30, ya might want to actually read it real quick. It mentions the ZX20, and the A707 nothing else.
Does anyone else find it strange that Krzr is spelled KRAZER?
Re: the Nokia N75- The US version of the Nokia website has the following to say about the N75: "The Nokia N75 Phone has not been authorized as required by the rules of the Federal Communications Commission ("FCC")."
Is this something standard, or are we not going to be seeing this phone for a very long time?
the cu500v is pretty much an update to the cu500 that includes cingular's new ishare video calling feature. they were trying to release a patch that would update current cu500 devices to make in work but it was unsuccessful.
btw, the misspelling of KRZR is just an idiots fault...
not to burst any bubbles buuuuuut...
i work at a corporate owned cingular store, the 8525 and a few other phones have actually been on the rebate forms for a few months now.
i do know--with pretty good authority that the pearl will be out in 2 weeks.
Brad, you aren't bursting any bubbles. The phones that are new to the rebate form are mainly the Treo 680, 750 and Samsung Blackjack which the article is pointing out. The 8525 is old news and most of us know that already. At this point, I don't trust anything anyone from Cingular has to say about release dates on any phone.
haha, i know how that goes. example: razr v3i. i swear, i was told that it was coming out "next week" for 3 months!!!
Bought that pricey BJ and spent 2 hours in the store with the clerk trying to get all features to work. MobiTV doesn't work on the BJ. The keyboard is cumbersome; the keys are not raised high enough. The right soft key (RSK) more often than not displays the menu and then drops it instead of keeping it "on" for choice selection. That same key may be too close to the "back" key, because using the RSK sometimes triggers a backwards screen event. Its going back. I'll try the other 3G products w/o the qwrty.
