We love the Dash and all, but if you're Stateside and have been waiting for a formidable Q competitor complete with 3G, you've probably had your eye on the
i607 BlackJack. It's a little chunky, a little clunky, and the keys and keyboard are not exactly our favorite (think: i320 meets Q), but it's the only GSM phone on the block with EDGE / UMTS / HSDPA. Other notable features include a QVGA display, new
Cingular Music support (as well as Cingular Video), Bluetooth 2.0, and a 1.3 megapixel camera. Like its other holiday 2006 QWERTY smartphone competitors (see:
Treo 680,
Dash,
Q), it too will be priced at $200 with a two year contract (and unlimited data plan). And hey, lucky you, both Phone Scoop and LAPTOP have reviews of the device, both of which seem pretty positive about Cingular's latest (even despite that sad lack of WiFi).

no wifi??? what a waste...
Why do people get their hopes up on Wifi? I mean it's not that big of a deal and you know that Cingular won't put it in there.
what kind of prcessor? is it more than the 200mhz and hopefully support skype?
Wow! So far this phone looks great. Not a bad price point, and the inclusion of 3G is a major plus compared to other Cingular smartphones (Nokia E62). Could care less about no WiFi personally...
@ Logan (#4):
As for the WiFi, it's on my Dash, and I think it's a great inclusion.
And, Cingular doesn't "put it in there." This sucker is made by Samsung, not Cingular. You've got it all backwards.
Err... #2, I mean
Is there a release date? Can I buy it right now?!

AVAILABILITY AND PRICING
"The BlackJack will be available November 16, 2006 for $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate with a two-year activation, a qualified voice plan and an unlimited data plan.."
heh, sorry I should have put this in my post, got it from here: http://msmobiles.com/news.php/5757.html
There's an actual press release from Cingular: http://cingular.mediaroom.com/index.php?s=press_releases&item=1762 which has a link to a second page with a little more content on it http://www.prnewswire.com/mnr/cingular/26058/
"And, Cingular doesn't "put it in there." This sucker is made by Samsung, not Cingular. You've got it all backward."
That's a typing error.
Hell yes - Cingular left WiFi and we can not blame Samsung here!
The European version of the same device (called SGH-i600) will do the WiFi stuff fine!
theunwired.net made a preview of i600 and it shows WiFi! http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=3437 Why does the Europeans get WiFi and the Americans not (again), not to talk about the front cam.
I love It
I love the screen
I love the buttons
I love Samsung
Is it possible to this phone in the T-mobile network with my sim card?
What's the OS?
Is this a Symbian phone?
WM6 FTW!
hmmmm lets see here... It has Windows Media player, it has a Windows logo on the picture above, of the phone. When you open the links listed WITH the above article it talks about how its a Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone edition soooooooooo i highly doubt is Symbian.
For the love of God - still no wifi?! This should be standard -- everybody wants it except the cell phone networks. Where is the telecommunications regulator? It's pretty obviously abuse of dominant position by he operators. Compare to Europe, where Nokia's e61 comes automatically with wi-fi. Is anyone from the regulator's office reading this? WELL GO AND SERVE SOME WRITS INSTEAD!
The blackjack is one of samsungs better devices. It is loaded amazing features that incluce cingular: video, streaming broadcasts..also xm mobile...AMAZING!! It is ALSO 3G which provides faster data speeds!! The device is a great size: small including a full qwerty key board!!
I've had one for a couple of days now. Cingular was going to release them earlier last week, but the Marketing Dept. had the sales weasels keep them off the shelves. Finally let them out on Sunday 11/19. I like it so far. Might have preferred to wait for the latest Treo, but I needed a new phone now.
does anyone know if the European version's 3G will work in the United States? Will you have to do downloads?
i want this phone ssoooo bad. ever since last month when i called cingular about an upgrade and they mentioned it to me. i looked online at it, i loved it, i went to the store and played with it, i loved it... then i saw the price... i'm saving up for it though. i want to get it soon so i can have one of the newest best things out. they always talk about the buttons being hard to navigate, i have a razr (for almost a year now) and that thing is hard to navigate! the buttons are FLAT!! so i will enjoy this baby soon as i get the money. anybody know of any deals? i checked out ebay but there prices reach about $400 anyway after all the bidding...

The Samsung Blackjack is a wonderful phone no doubt it is asthetically pleasing and it is a smart phone. So what if it doesn't have wifi at least you can make phone calls and watch videos and listen to your own music.
