Well, looky here. The LG enV just popped up on Verizon's "testman" staging site in preps for on-line launch. Flauntin' all
the specs we've come to uh, envy, we still expect the pup to pop for full launch on
Monday the 27th. Nevertheless, we're already getting reports that at least some retail locations have unleashed LG's VX9900 Communicator beast as of yesterday. So step away from the bird, quietly excuse yourself for a smoke, and get your azz down to the neighborhood VZW shop on the sly. Don't worry, you won't be the only one steaming up the glass with your hot greasy, giblet breathed anticipation.

So how do I make my non-V cast 9900 to play MP3s from my micro SD? I know there's gotta be a way...
Anyone else having difficulty with trying to send or receive anything other than name cards via bluetooth?
so does the testman site have any info about the SLVR??? I've been waiting for that phone since Sept - and putting off getting a new phone until then.. When is it coming out for verizon?!?!?!
Another cheesy phone - clamshell to boot. Are these decisions made by committee at Verizon? I don't know a soul who owns a clamshell candybar phone.
Any idea if this phone has the vx9800 business card reader function? That might come in handy in my work. Was just about ready to spring for the 9800 but might wait till monday.
9900 still has that horrible tiny screen on front. This phone is still way to big. They did slim it down from the 9800 but really in the days of razor thin phones this thing is a beast. The place where they put the SPACE bar is horrible also
The VX9800 was a teeny-bopper brick. This VX9900 tries hard to grow-up and be more professional. Too bad it still can't touch a Sidekick. And too bad Samsung is prepping their SCH-U710/SCH-U740.

Wait- a Sidekick? I can't think of a single adult who owns one of those things. Talk about a kiddy toy. Real adults who work for a living use Treos and Blackberry's but I guess if yu want to Imn you buddies at the mall the Sidekick will work.
Agreed on the form factor though. The new Moto set to come out looks like a enV killer to me...

I just got the 9900 yesterday, sure it is a bit marginally longer and wider that the 9800, BUT it is so sleak and refined compared to the previous model. There are some details that are much nicer. I really like the designated key for the wireless email, no more waiting for the mobile web to start in order to log on to open your email. The navigation feature is an added bonus also! There is the GPS, and the talking directions to the Navigation that makes this a worth while feature. Not cheap looking by any means. Another upgrade are the keys on the keyboard. They are spread apart a little more, so it makes it easier to type. The 2.0 megapixel camera with a protective lens cover is a major upgrade! There are more camera like features with this newer camera compared to the 9800. I like it and I'm so glad that it is finally here. If you like the 9800, you can definately appreciate the upgrades and better design associated with this phone. Nothing good was taked out of this phone, but only newer more sofisticated options are added.
The 9800 is by far the best phone I ever had (I've owned a couple motorolas and a samsung before). Great voice quality, stil not as big or "brick"-like as a sidekick, stereo speakers, and nice qwerty keypad without having to get a smartphone/pda. Having played with the 9900 extensively my goodness is it a better phone! The 9900 takes AMAZING pictures (for a phone at least), has a much better looking UI, slimmer, lighter, better battery life... I mean it is a great solid phone. Methinks the people knocking this phone are only knocking it because it's on Verizon. If T-Mobile or Cingular came out with the same thing they'd be drooling over it.
Here's my take on the snazy 9900; it's just like the 9800.. You would be fooled to think that there were HUGE differences in these two models, really all it is is genuinely an Upgrade to the 9800; everything you thought would be better of the 9800 transcends itself on the 9900. I ravished and fantasized about upgrading to this model. I however got the chance to play with it before we launched it and realized that all my high hopes for this gadget were all let down. Yes, the phone is thinner, but I suppose to thinness compensates for its width. This thing feels like a brick in your hands, and I have big hands for a girl. Totally not what I expected. The menu style gives it more of a sidekick feel, but not much different. It is WMA/MP3 capable, but if you work for VZW you know how to make your non-MP3 VCast Music LG-VX9800 become a MP3/WMA capable phone! ;)
I hate the hinge on this thing, it completely makes the screen look almost hidden, you can not have the phone flipped open and it be steady with the counter top. That's a problem, and the memory card calls for a Micro SD as opposed to The V's Mini SD; big bummer to those of us who have spent a few bucks on a 1G memory card!!
I clicked the picture at the top, it took my to the Testman Site with the phone on it. Can I select it and order the phone from that site. Everything seems to work the same on that site. I would really like to know, I will be out of town tomorrow away from my computer, I would LOVE to order it tonight. Any help would be appreciated!!!!!!

As an owner of the 9800 and I know I can speak for at least 3 others I know, the 9900 is definitely a welcome upgrade and I can't see how anyone with experience with the 9800 doesn't think so.
It's thinner and lighter, and it's only marginaly wider (it looks a lot more wider becuase it is thinner), but has a much nicer looking UI, way better camera with lens cover, and it has a better battery life. Yeah the hinge takes some getting used to but it makes the 2 soft keys below the internal screen easier to press.
All in all a solid upgrade over the 9800 which is a damn solid phone on it's own.

The VX9900 still uses text messages for IMs. Weak when compared to the Sidekick. IMO, they both have the same target audience.

To clearify.... Can you control the music player with the phone closed, stop, play, volume, etc?
Someone already answered you but yes, you can text and control the music player with the phone closed.
I know the 9800 allowed you to load music strait to the card. Does the 9900 allow that?? One Verizon rep said the sync cable will be required.
Does anybody know if this phone will come out in other colors other than silver and orange?
I got mine by renewing my contract for another 2. Got it for $109 :)
