E62 really lacks the Wifi of the E61 wich allows you to retrieve web content for free in MANY locations. Nokia recently updated their connectivity application "PC Suite" to fix many issues with stability. The application still hangs from time to time and the phone still needs some hard software reset (good thing they have a 100% working backup utility now !).
E61-2 are good devices for people that feel confortable in a "non-microsoft windows ce" environment. Symbian is great and does have some good API for developers but the S60 series still has stability issues and I am pretty sure they can manage to get a better power management to increase significantly the battery life.
I am currently using this phone without a SIM card. It is only connected to my VOIP provider via the few wifi networks I usually am connected to. The second usage of my E61 is for email retrieval via wifi and web browsing. I also use my E61 as a mp3 player with a 2gb minisd card.
It's only missing a basic digital camera and that would be the all-in-one device. (Gps like on N95 would also be cool but maybe a little too much exageration).
Current firmware of the E61-2 is version 2.068 wich STILL has many issues. Voip is NOT working as well as it should (no STUN support, totally ridiculous). Every time a track changes in the music player, you need to press volume up-down to restore the regular Equalizer (it is lost between every track). Search Google for other known issues...
In the FAQ of E60 phone (a similar S60 serie device), nokia affirms it should handle STUN by the end of 2006. We can therefore hope a new firmware will be out before christmas fixing most of the current known issues. Current firmware is already 5 months old (July 2006)...
Francis
http://capazooinsiders.com

Francis Robichaud
