We know this might be a sensitive subject in the Windows Mobile community with its on again,
off again talk of release, but this looks like the real deal here folks. Our very own Roc A Fella, who brought us
a little of this and
some of that, was able to get his hands on a Zenum Opus and had some time to play with it. Click on for more.
Starting with the internals, we are looking at an anemic 200Mhz OMAP processor running Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC. It sports 128MB of RAM and 64MB of ROM, and tri-band GSM / GPRS. Even though there
may be two different versions offered, one with 850Mhz and one without, we are still puzzled about the lack of EDGE and UMTS. Thankfully at least there is 802.11b/g to supplant that crappy lack of data (which is exactly the problem we saw with the Dash). It also features a 2 megapixel camera, microSD, and Bluetooth 1.2 with A2DP; the device will also come prepackaged with some Zenum-exclusive software (what, we're not entirely sure). Now we have some good info that the delay shouldn't be much longer, so we'll have to see what they come up with.
Update: We just received word from Roc that many of you already guesed, the spec sheet doesn't seem to be final. The device should have several changes which may include the radio and the keypad to name a few. As always, stay tuned for more info!
I mean... it looks pretty nice and all, but that keyboard looks less than comfortable to use, and what am I missing that makes it SO feature-packed? I guess because its slim, the wifi is nice, but seriously... am I missing something.
Don't get me wrong. I love the idea of a slim pocket PC as much as anyone. The Q and Dash and all these slim WinMo phones are unattractive to me simply because of the lack of Pocket PC, but this isn't making me say "wow" right now.
that spec sheet is unimpressive at best, even considering the slim form factor which, honestly, doesn't even look that slim.
This device has what all the others are looking for..........yeah, right!
Agreed. It looks VERY pretty, but the keyboard looks uncomfortable at best... most likely unusable, and how can they really get away with no EDGE at least?
... or were you being sarcastic in your post? I usually pick up on sarcasm pretty well, but maybe THATS what I was missing... sarcasm. No?
200 Mhz OMAP processor? GPRS? Bluetooth 1.2? 128Mb RAM, 64Mb ROM? The specs fail to impress, very pedestrian stuff. Perhaps the Zenum Opus folks were hoping to get some feedback by trotting this device out for a peak at the daylight. As stated...the specs are subject to change. If so then I think the message to Opus will be "pretty device, now get serious with the tech already!"
Is this a joke?
"This phone is packed full of features, it really is"....."Starting with the internals...a 200Mhz OMAP processor running Windows Mobile 5.0"
Who wrote this advertising pap? At this point we all know for sure the above is a weak performing spec.
Stuff like this makes you want to not bother reading Engadget. Honestly.
btw, the Dash does have EDGE, just no UMTS
btew, btw, this thing looks huge
Personally I love how they're already promoting another phone (Organum: "coming soon"). Let's put out product one before we start looking to snazz it up w/ a shiny version.
Organum is not a phone... it's an mp3 player!! So let's see, anyway I agree with the "short" specs... maybe their strategy is to show less, and then surprise us! Who knows!!!! ;-)
