Verizon's LG VX8600 reviewed
For folks looking for a sweet new clamshell on Verizon, the choice between the Motorola K1m and the so-called Chocolate flip -- the LG VX8600 -- is a tough one. After all, they're both glossy, music-oriented pieces with touch sensitive external controls; heck, even LG agrees the similarity is a rather striking one. So how's a consumer to decide? LAPTOP Magazine recently decided to take a crack at the VX8600, coming away with a rather glowing review of the phone. Of course, Verizon's consistent (and sometimes maligned) UI experience levels the playing field significantly, but LAPTOP was pleased with the acceptable call quality, 1.3 megapixel cam's performance, the external controls, the loud (only slightly distorted) external speaker and A2DP support. In fact, they go on to sum it up by saying that "this is now our favorite V Cast phone." Of course, we're guessing there's a Moto fan or two just itching to respond in kind, but it sounds like anyone looking to pick up the Chocolatiest of clamshells won't come away disappointed.

I would have to agree, it has been a very reliable solid phone for VZW. If I wasn't so sold on my vx9900 I would def. own the vx8600.
I like the VX8600 more than the KRZR myself. my m610 owns the both of them though.
I picked up this phone a few weeks back. I have been very happy with it. You can perform many simple tasks without opening the phone and using the touch sensitive buttons. The glossy finish doesn't get along well with fingerprints and such. Overall, it's a very nice phone (and it's rated higher than the m610, sorry)
"..the loud (only slightly distorted) external speaker.."
loud???
bwhahaha!
what a joke
laptop review looses all credibility with that comment
the biggest weakness of the 8600 is the speakerphone (volume = too low)

@southbayjau
What I am sure the review referred to was the music playback from the external speaker was loud (which I would tend to agree), not the volume of the speakerphone itself. I have noticed with a few phones that speakerphone volumes and music playback volumes aren't always the same.
How do I check my phone status, missed calls, etc without having to open my phone?
Does anybody know if I can use a 2g microSD card in this phone, or is it limited to 1g?
Just today I tried a Sandisk 2 Gig Micro SD card in my vx8600 and it worked just fine. I have heard issues with formatting the card using the phone itself though so what I did was just copy the folders from the old 64 meg card onto the PC then onto the new 2 gig card using my card reader. Good Luck.
