Every once in a while, you hear a story that warms your heart -- a story that proves that there's still love in this cold, cold world we all call home. Such is the case here, where it seems sworn rivals Sprint and Verizon have sheathed their weapons long enough to reach an accord allowing the former's customers to use the latter's data network. If true (we haven't tested it ourselves), it would mean that Sprint's EV-DO footprint has just gotten a
lot bigger. The roaming apparently works with Sprint's latest preferred roaming list, so give it a shot (just a warning, it'll require a call to that fabulous customer service line) and hit us up with the results!
Yeah, it's called A12 Authentication... Allows EVDO roaming... should be running either now, or soon...
First things first: most of Verizon and Sprint's EV-DO markets overlap. Second: does this even include EV-DO roaming? From what I understand, it is just 1xRTT, but I could be wrong.
99% of the time, this would mean nothing to me.
I noticed the other day when my M1 went into roaming that I was able to use data. I decided to change my phone to data only to see if it would work and it did however, I didn't experience EV-DO just 1xRTT but I am unsure if EV-DO roaming is supported. Like someone else said most of the time I do not have a problem with my Sprint phone going into however at some parts of my school my phone goes into roaming. I can make/receive calls and send text messages however I cannot use data. If this is the case I should now be able to use data while roaming at school. I haven't tried it yet as the semester is over but will soon. This is good news.
I just called and got my Treo 700p and Treo 700wx flagged for a PRL Update (press *2 from your phone to call Sprint). The rep said that this is true and Sprint customers will now be able to roam on Verizon's EV-DO network.
Before we spread false rumors, no one has confirmed that EVDO roaming works between Sprint and Verizon or that it has been announced. And low and behold, EVDO roaming doesn't work from personal experience with the latest PRL in a Verizon EVDO area where there is only Sprint 1XRTT. Just like 100% of people who have reported on other forums have said, this only works on 1XRTT. Got it? Good.
I can confirm that I can Roam in the DC metro on my sprint 700p.. verizon owns the rights in the metro so I can roam on EVDO .. YAY
I think the thing to remember is that this is the same kind of roaming that people experience when Sprint users got the ability to roam on the Verizon network for voice service. That means that the phone will take the absolute worst Sprint signal before it will ever accept a Verizon signal. So you could have an absolutely horrible Sprint signal in the same place where there is a perfect Verizon signal and the phone will NOT roam onto the Verizon network. People always think this is a "best effort" roaming capability. It is not. It's for when you have absolutely NO Sprint coverage. Then and only then are you going to be able to roam on Verizon's network for EvDO coverage. Still though, it IS a benefit. But it's not earth-shattering or anything.
This is amazng! We have Verizon repeaters in my building so we have an excellent Verizon signal throughout. I can only get a Sprint signal in window offices. In the past I've been able to roam onto Verizon for voice, but not data. Enabled roaming again today and I have a strong Verizon signal in the building and finally with data (Goodlink). Called Sprint for an update first - they said it was unnecessary so I tried it and sure enough... I didn't test bandwidth.
I'm getting my data service to roam off my phone directly but I can't seem to roam with bluetooth DUN to my PDA....Are there any special settings or tricks I need to do to either the phone or the PDA to make a roam data connection?....Thanks
It worked for me a few days ago for both my ppc6700 and my treo 700wx, if you switch the phone into "roaming only" mode to force it to roam, you'll be able to get connected, but only with 1xRTT, no EVDO... at least so it seems for now. I haven't done any speed tests, but hey- 1x is better than nothing.
