Verizon Wireless to give away ringtones on New Year's Eve

It seems that Verizon Wireless is in the holiday spirit this year and are going to give away one free ringtone to every customer on December 31st. Customers will be able to take advantage of this by texting the word "tone" to "2007." In return, they will receive a message with the instructions on how to download their free ringtone. With this being a promotion, we're thinking that your choice of content might be limited (What, no B.I.G.?). If anyone decides to take advantage of this, drop us a line and tell us about the ringtone choices.
I just sent 'tone' to 2007 and got this reply: "Get ready for a free ringtone. Check out VZW Tones to pick ur song & stay tuned 4 a txt msg on how 2 get it on 12/31. Happy New Year!"
FYI, I'm involved in this promo and you can choose your free tone from all available ring tones offered on the VZW Tones Deluxe app. I don't know the exact number, but it is the entire catalog (I haven't checked, but I would imagine even B.I.G. is on the deck :)

It's true. I've been doing some research and nowhere does it say that the ringtone selection is limited. As long as you have VZW Tones Deluxe you'll be able to download 1 ringtone at no cost

I wonder if I'll have to pay for the text messages involved (one sent, one received).
Yeah, that's one part I forgot to mention. Normal txt rates will apply when opting in for this ringtone offer

I just did this and received the following text:
"2get ur free ringtone: Go2 Get It Now on phone>Tunes&Tones>GET New Ringtone>VZW Tones>Select &Purchase song>Option 2 Redmptn Code? Enter 2007."
I have a Q which doesn't have Get It Now. I guess I'm SOL.
You get to pick whichever tone u want from Get it now. =)
I just got my free ringtone and I picked from any song I wanted from the VZWtones and chose purchase and then It will have an option to pay the price of the ringtone or get it for free>
i keep on getting invalid code. am i doing something wrong? i'm going to verizon, get it now, vzw tones, manage, enter promo, entering 2007 and then i get invalid. what am i doing wrong?
i went to vzw tones, manage, get promo, and entered 2007 and it gave me an invalid code error. anybody else get this?

Halston- Don't go to manage! Just click on your ringtone you want on VZW RINGTONES (DELUXE). Click purchase then click redemption code and enter the code (2007). Then you should get your tone,no doubt!

You don't ahve to g to manage to enter the redemption code, which is 2007. You need only choose a tone and go to purchase it. You will see an option for "Redemption Code" under the 2.99 retail price. Choose the redemption code option and enter 2007. And it's yours for free.
wait! im doing this as we speak and Im in VZW tone deluxe with rbt...and its DOWNLOADING! SOMETHING!!!!

One of my phones got a response an hour later, my other phone has yet to get a respone...
The reason it stops/comes up invalid is because half of America is trying this at the moment, and, needless to say, it's moving very slowly. It took me about 30 minutes to get all the way through and download mine. Just be patient.
Verizon must be experiencing too much traffic because I can't even get onto Get-It-Now to redeem my credits... if that's how you're supposed to do it.
I've been trying for hours. This just makes me want to switch providers!

Once u go to vzw tones, find the song you want by using the search or browse option. Select the song, and it will ask you if you want to purchase or preview. Do purchase. It will give you 2 options: Buy, or enter promo code. Select enter promo code and enter 2007.
I don't get it... I click purchase and it just says ERROR: I don't have enough credits. It doesn't even mention a promo code.
I've been trying to download my free ringtone fronm VZW Tones for about 4 hours now and get the error "The network is temporarily unavailable." I have a feeling I won't be getting any free ringtone tonight!!
So I hit purchase and entered my code, and then I got a network failure error. The next time I tried to do it, the option to enter a code during purchase was gone. Really great, now I don't get a free ringtone because it thinks I already have it.
i called verizon and they said that sooo many people tried to do it that the program went into system faliure and it shut dow.....there were just too many people trying to do it at one time...if you were charged and you were supposed to get it free they will take it off your next bill cycle....however....they will not refund any ringtones that were unable to be purchased within the promotion even thought it didnt last for the entire period promised....o well....maybe verizon should have been a little more careful before having ads on MTV, VH1, and BTV.....hopefully a lot of people took advantage of this while they could and got that free ringtone out of verizon which they covet soooo much....
Too bad there was a nationwide outage of "Get It Now" on New Years' eve. What a disaster in marketing! I hope VZW will make up for it by allowing us a few days to dl the tone.
That damn txting of TONE to 2007 caused no less than three marketing text messages to be sent to me. I had to text NO, then STOP to get the messages to stop. I got a confirmation for each :S
Update: I attempted to get my free ringtone on New Year's Eve for about 7 hours off and on & continually got the "Network is temporarily unavailable" error. Then, at 11:20pm Central time, I got a different error...."The redemption code has expired." Thanks for nothing Verizon! If anyone hears that Verizon Wireless will issue a credit or a new code for their poor service on New Year's Eve, please post the information. Happy New Year & I won't be purchasing any ringtones from Verizon Wireless anytime soon!
Call customer service and ask for a credit to your account to cover the cost of a ringtone download. I am not 100% sure if they will do it, but try it... couldn't hurt.
wow. I tried the code and it never showed the option of letting me enter a promo code so I wasted $2.99.
I received no such offer from Verizon where I have been a customer since they first offered service many years ago. How did their customers find out about this offer?
it was just a promotion. they advertised minimally. but there was a big response and get it now was down most of the day, so it was pretty lame. nothing to do with how long you've had vzw...
Love verizon wireless or not, one thing's for sure....it tries to provide its customers with a high quality product at all times. This promo was meant to throw the market a bone and stimulate usage of course. The fact is that market response was over the top. Even though VZW is all about the network and reliability, in this case servers were hammered and as a result there were indeed many people that received network errors. For those that couldn't complete the download using the code, VZW will step up to the plate and make sure that everyone receives what was promised. Stay tuned for info that is sure to follow.
