This has been a topic of conversation for some time now. VZW has been in talks with Alltel for things such as roaming agreements, etc. Ideally VZW could pick up Alltel and not have to worry about messy technology conversions (like Sprint-Nextel), available capital (again, Sprint-Nextel), and a lot of the re-branding problems that have been prevalent (i.e. Cingular->AT&T). Oh yeah, and for all you Alltel people that are bashing VZW, remember: if the buyout does go through current Alltel customers gain access to all VZW service area and their current service area.
