Every time we see
Crossbow, we're reminded of something else... oh yeah, that's right, Windows Mobile 5. Don't get us wrong, it looks a little slicker, but the
i760's attraction is more likely to lie the hardware itself -- not the ultra-mild update to the Pocket PC Phone Edition guts we've loved (and hated) for the past couple years. We expect this thing to hit Verizon stores before the first half of the year is out, but with Verizon, Samsung, and Microsoft all potentially weak links in the delivery chain, we're having a bugger of a time staying positive. Don't let us down, folks!
[Thanks, anonymous tipster]
This phone has everything I have alwas wanted in a cellular phone. I have turned off the EVDO service because of Verizon's unaffordable rates on EVDO service. The phone has enabled WiFi, and bluetooth. It has the ability to hook up to an external gps via bluetooth. It also has voice activation features. I am loveing the touch screen and the qwerty keyboard. I am currently going to pharmacy school and use this phone as my biggest reference...I am able to put all my Drug programs, medical dictionary, Plenty of music, and videos/movies in digital form after using my PQDVD program. It plays all the old nintendo/sega games with the aid of an emulator. It has email capability, outlook powerpoint, word, excel. Mobipocket is an excellent ebook reading program for the phone. I have all my lectures from my pharmacy classes, viewable with the aid of the powerpoint and word programs....the list goes on and on. It came with the regular battery and and an extended battery. The send/end buttons are a little tough to get used to, but the phone was built to be able to handle one-handed use. I guess there is always a bit of a trade off. It was a little tough to sync for the first time...due to Windows mobile 6 and micrsoft Vista new technology...Good old Microsoft :) I hear microsoft will be coming out with a new Windows PC program sometime around 2010. Most likely will be a bit late cuz they are never on time...but I am looking forward to this... Vista is a bit of a power hungry operating system. It has largely shown me that even the most up to date computers can have a bit of lag in them...(even with a top of the line superfast alienware laptop with 2 gb memory and 2.4ghz processor). Overall theis phone is every tech person's dream come true. The only device even on the radar that will have the same and possibly slightly better capabilities will be the new Palm 800w with windows mobile 6. It has all the same capabilities except it is supposed to have a in-house GPS system (built-in). I do not think I will spend the money to buy it when it comes out though because I am highly satisfied with my current phone and all that it does.
It has Get it now I wonder if it has Vcast and VCast Music.
Looks like wifi isn't disabled on this one. However I'm sure for production Verizon will cripple it. Hopefully we'll be able to re-enable with a regedit. I'm really starting to dig this phone. Think I'll most likely go for it over the XV6800 because of the wifi and Crossbow.
Why would Verizon disable Wifi on this phone? They deliberately enabled the ability to have wifi and the phone on at the same time with the 6700's firmware update. That isn't to say that they absolutely won't do it, but it sounds a little strange. I'll definitely wait for one of these over the 6800.
#1: since when has Verizon ever done that?
The i730 has wifi.
All I say is, don't sleep on the Windows Mobile Group over in Redmond. Those guys are awesome.
why oh why can't sprint grab this phone??
ahhh i'm so cool. just like we were saying... sooner rather then later.
did anyone else notice the GIN applications?
Did anyone notice the Windows Update icon?? Could it be that MS FINALLY will push product updates to the phone w/o the user having to go through the Hardware or Wireless company for updates?!?! Amazing!
this phone will have a 300mhz in it...draw back....checked the cpu code throw google
this phone has a 400mhz processor
It won't have GIN and VCast services. They renamed the VZW section of Handango "Get Applications" as a way to bring a uniform naming to the applications purchasing area.
Will I ever be able to install crossbow on my blackjack :(
Will there be a gold one?
> We expect this thing to hit Verizon stores
> before the first half of the year is out
Microsoft has flat out said that no Crossbow devices will debut before the middle of this year. That means July at the earliest.
Sorry.
Any chance this supports RevA? I wish it had GPS too so that I could use Windows Live without ever having to type in a zipcode /street address...
Oh if it's not coming out till at least June then it's gonna have Rev A on it, since by then no doubt VZW will have officially announced their Rev A rollout (which is already running in quite a few cities, I guess VZW wants to wait till it's all over the place to make the big announcement).
i want this phone so bad! i really hope it comes out before june or july :(
oh and if you guys have such nice access to this phone, can we get some nicer pics of the actual hardware? the ones that are out right now are all blurry and low quality. thanks guys!
Yeah, I won't be holding my hopes for a June release. I've been waiting for 4 months for the Libra to be released, and no one knows anything. There was promising information revealed, but now it's all passed and no one is talking about anything. I want a phone with d-pad on the front and side slide keyboard. The first one that actually gets released will get my business. All the speculations are a bunch of junk.
What I NEED to know is whether or not this phone is touchscreen! Some sites have labelled this a smartphone, which means no touchscreen. Other sites have stated that they have seen the phone and it comes with a stylus, which means with touchscreen. Does anyone have first hand knowledge on this? Can anyone post good quality pictures of the phone from all sides? Including the "so-called" stylus?
I HEARD THIS PHONE IS COMING OUT FEBUARY 6TH CAN ANYBODY BACK ME UP ON THAT?
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2006/12/22/verizons-samsung-i760-out-blackjacks-the-blackjack/
All indicaqtions are it's a pocket PC and not a smartphone. Therefore would have touchscreen.
We'll be lucky if it's Feb 6th of 2008!
I have heard microsoft has said crossbow will not ship until May. Seems doomed to be a while before we see this in action. I would have it now if I could get one.
Here is a video of this phone.

Here's a link to the only vid I've seen that addresses the stylus (the reporter even says that he discovered it by mistake, and that it was a surprise to the reps!):

I feel like it's been forever since we've seen anything on this. Maybe a couple more comments and we can at least move it into the "most commented" column on the right.
Has anyone heard anything new on WM6's street release, much less the i760?
Does anyone know if Sprint will get a version of this phone & if so, when.
i am in the same question mode as this gentleman. I am really curious as to why Sprint seems to lag so far behind every other company in new phone models. We've had the same phones for years and the new models that have just came out lack what older models have. go figure
Call and Hangup on the sides?? What is wrong with them.. I'll be accidently hanging up on everyone. Grr I say.. woulda been such a cool phone to own.. but that's just.. well.. stupid.
hey any chance any one has the dimensions on this phone i really would like to know how thin it is in pictures I have seem it does not look to much bigger then the Q
Okay, I have read on one of the treo boards that this phone will be out July 4, 2007. They had a chart with release dates on a few phones...People who commented on the information said that this guy is pretty accurate, so we'll have to see....I am ANXIOUSLY awaiting this phone so i can replace my 700P POS from Verizon...visit the PALM blogs for details...Friends don't let friends buy PALM...
they are hoping for a august release! that is per samsung reps I spoke with eatly this month @ a i760 presentation booth! vzw is making us all beg!
I called Verizon PDA Support yesterday and the guy I spoke with said they hadn't heard anything about the i760, that they always get trained on the new PDA's a week in advance, and if this one had been available he would have bought it already cause it sounds freakin cool :)
Hi...
I read somewhere that the phone doesn't have outlook sync. cabability. Has anyone heard this?? Please let me know.
So, now the i760 is scheduled to be available online on Oct. 19. Just an FYI!
