Windows Mobile AKU 3.3 hacked for Verizon and Sprint 6700

Is your Sprint PPC-6700 or Verizon XV6700 feeling down, running poorly, or are you just sick of the bad performance? Fret not Windows Mobile lovers, hope may be in sight. As both carriers have given up on supporting the device and won't be releasing any updates to correct performance issues, a well-skilled hacker comes in to save the day and release AKU 3.3 for each phone. He's also been working on AKU 3.5 and Crossbow. If anyone is brave enough to install these unsupported updates, drop us a line.

Works like a charm. I have been using for about 5 days and I love it. The speed and stability is great and I highly recommend it.
It is really too bad that the companies abandon support for their phones so quickly. I do know that it is an eventual process, but it seems as if the proxess for phones is on fast forward.

My xv6700 is running much more smoothly now... no more storage cards freezes (BSOD)!
Yeah it rocks. My PPC-6700 runs very smoothly, and when I have it overclocked there's no noticable lag whatsoever. Just be warned: it is a fairly tedious process that requires several hard resets and, most importantly, you MUST sync your contacts with Outlook before you upgrade. I didn't and had to do it all over again. It was worth it, though!
I agree with the above, this made my XV6700 run like buttered oil. This thing rocks!!
i am missing a couple of features from before. Smart dialing doesnt work anymore. Camera app is gone.
i wouldn't be so quick to say that there will be no more updates from the providers.
in fact, i heard the AKU 3.X will be coming from HTC in February...whatever that's worth.
i'm waiting for a more stable version of AKU 3.x.
With the exception of a reduction in battery life (which was already poor anyway) this new AKU is great. The best way to describe the change is a phone that is as snappy and responsive running all the plug-ins and additional software you like, as a phone that is running a fresh install of WM5.
That, plus the resolution to BSOD issues and lockups. I'm waiting for the i760 but for now this update to my 6700 is a huge step forward.
Well AKU 3.3 and WM6 roms have been available on xda-dev for quite a while.
I use it for my HTC wizard and it is quite a difference. At least for the wizard it is very easy to install
I still sell these things! What do you mean when you say that the carriers are no longer supporting them?
They've reached EOL and will be replaced. Are not supported software wise as in no more updates.
I installed the AKU3.3 and it works awesome on my ppc6700.
Runs 110% better but no contacts are showing???
I'm running a aku3.3 on my 8125 wizard and it's killer, xda-dev is the poo, those guys doing things on the wizard are amazing, and verizon sucks anyways

I am experiencing the same thing. I also noticed 2 Windows Mobile players on the phone. I have noticed a huge improvement but I am wondering if there are other areas of issues that we might need to worry about. One side question, if this is AKU 3.3, why does the build number now show 15671.3.5.0 ??? Wouldn't that mean AKU 3.5 ???
BTW, I installed it on the Verizon XV6700
The update works fine - if you are having problems with the Smart Dialer, you need to do a registry edit -- the Pics&Vids application can be restored by copying some files. There's a thread at PPCGeeks in the Apache forum that has the details.
Also, maybe the editors should mention that this update REMOVES Bluetooth DUN and replaces it with PAN - which doesn't work on Macs.
