Verizon's USB720 EV-DO Rev A dongle plays catch-up to Sprint
Sprint's been pushing its Novatel U720 Rev A USB modem for a couple months now, but we suppose it's not too terribly late for Verizon to join in with its own rebadged unit, the USB720. Not a lot of surprises here, the two units are fairly identical, straight down to the USB y-cable to boost reception. Verizon does win some points for including Mac support out of the box, whereas Sprint just got that a couple of weeks ago, but the $130 post-rebate pricetag (Sprint's U720 goes for $50 after rebate) isn't helping the USB720 out, especially considering those hefty Verizon data rates. Of course, none of this is official yet -- we're going off of what look to be leaked internal documents -- so perhaps Verizon will loosen up a bit on the pricetag before it starts selling these for reals. Purported launch dates are February 1st for B2B, and February 15th for retail.

"...especially considering those hefty Verizon data rates"
Wait wait wait, this isn't a data package for a PDA/smartphone. This is an actual device for wireless broadband internet on your PC or laptop. So unless I am mistaken, don't both Sprint and Verizon charge $59.99 a month for this service? I'm sure several Sprint fanboys will jump all over this if I am wrong anywyas.
To clarify: Sprint and Verizon do charge $59.99 for "unlimited" data but Verizon requires a voice plan to get that price and Sprint doesn't.
No, they don't. Look at their site. I think it's the same price.
I see Sprint offers a 40mb deal for $39.99 a month and the unlimited for $59.99 a month. But it is true, to get the $59.99 with VZW you also have to have a voice plan with them as well.
Just to confirm: this sucker's gonna be $129.99 2-yr (yes, after rebate), $179.99 1-yr, and $299.99 retail. Device is supposed to launch on Feb. 2nd for B2B and Feb. 20th for retail
"Verizon does win some points for including Mac support out of the box, whereas Sprint just got that a couple of weeks ago"
... Why blame Sprint for Apple not adding support right away? ...Verizon does not deserve points as they didnt do anything special. if they released their modem when Sprint did they would not of had mac support right away either.
Engadget = Verizon Biased
Look at the backhanded comment against Verizon I quoted in the first comment... clearly not a bias in favor of VZW at all.
Awww I had leaked the info on this back on the 24th. My pricing was a little different... but oh well. And on the data plan thing yeah there are promotions out for the pricing 59.99 or 79.99 and yeah i think a plan with a phone then add on this plan is what does that however i've seen it done just 59.99 no other plans
Though Verizon launched their Rev-A network, the cities they've officially listed aren't the only places they have Rev-A turned on at. There are quite a few major markets they aren't announcing yet, for whatever reason.
