Yeah, we know it was
unofficially officially announced earlier this week, but Microsoft's release finally hit the wires about Windows Mobile getting pushed out the door (for 3GSM). It's pretty much everything we already knew about the OS, but now more info about the devices and who's getting what. But before we hit that, we also got some interesting information about additional screen resolutions: yes,
WVGA (800 x 480) is now supported, as well as 320 x 320 -- you know
who's been asking for that res. Now, a few more bits on where 6 is headed:
- T-Mobile is indeed putting it on the Dash ("in the coming months"), still no word on the MDA
- Orange's SPV E650 (HTC)
- AT&T, Chunghwa, Sprint, Telefónica, and Verizon
- Dopod, HP, LG (more on that in a few), Moto, Palm, Samsung, SoftBank, Toshiba, and Vodafone
- Probably a lot more, too.
Will the new OS be a simple download and upgrade with no purchase necessary for existing customers? Anyone know?
I dont think it will make it to the mda because t-mobile is replacing it in the summer with a different model.
@Jass
What about phone providers? I have Tmobile right now, would they likely offer free upgrades?
I believe it will actually be 480x480 instead of 320x320. It follows the progression of the current 240x240 screens.
I just received official word from technical support at T-Mobile: T-Mobile WILL, I repeat, WILL be offering a Windows Mobile 6 update for the MDA. They are working on that update now, and a release date has not been set, but you can check back at http://www.t-mobile.com/windowsmobile to see if the update has been released yet. Yay!
Hopefully the "official word" you received wasn't from the same phone monkey that told me the AKU3 update for the SDA was imminent 9months ago.
Sorry guys. I actually work for T-Mobile. There will NOT be a WM6 update for the MDA. The update for the dash will be FREE for existing customers. The good news is you can expect the MyFaves MDA II soon ;-)
