iPhones are coming! The
iPhones are coming! AT&T is said to be starting the prep work to get iPhone displays installed in retail spots countrywide in preparation for the big day. We know this should be no biggie, and is usually accomplished by taking the phone, slapping on a security device, and placing on shelf / in cabinet. Of course Apple "thinks different," so it's purportedly shipping seven-foot tall, three-foot wide displays that will require a dedicated power supply and network connectivity. And we thought
LG and Prada were picky!
Wow, 7ft tall display? Little overdone huh?
Again Apple shows its real strenght is in marketing and communication to consumers, not really in technology itself...

Of course it's 7 feet tall...gotta have someway to convince you to part with all that cash!
Frankly, communication to consumers is far more important than technology in the phone arena. My biggest gripe when trying to buy these devices is going to a phone store and only finding appearance models, and no functional devices which will show me how bright the display is, how perky the UI is, whether the phone actually can be heard if you put it to your ear.
Apple has been superb in their retail stores at giving people enough of a tactile experience with their products to actually want to buy them. The fit and finish of the products really helps make the sale.
They absolutely need to have wifi in the store too.
There's no way they want the demo units to connect to the internet via EDGE.
