I hope for the sake of standards that they're using SyncML. If they're not, it's just silly.
I would expect that Smartphones aren't on the list because whatever "push mail" service you're using usually contains wireless PIM sync anyhow.
Verizon had this a long time ago. And its free if you have your Account set up online. You also can view, print and edit them from the computer. Cingular always late with things

myth90045, you're missing the point, it's mostly to sync the calendar. to transfer contacts from one phone to another, we have the sim card for that. we don't have to pay to transfer contacts (verizon charges $10 to change phone and transfer settings at their walk-in store). we just swap the sim card.
between the sim card and microSD card, everything but the calendar can be transfered from one phone to another. Mobile Backup is just the missing link.
(of course this is assuming it's using SyncML, if it's not then it's just silly)

I'd also imagine it's for the instances when a ATT customer would lose their phone or have it stolen, when they get the replacement they just re-download their contacts.
List is pretty hefty?
No hate, just hoping T picks up some new phones from SE this year, so the w810i will not be regarded as 'the latest' offered model.
Seems a bit late for AT&T to offer this solution. I would expect many of their customers to already be using one of the free services out there (like www.zyb.com) How will they convert those customers to paying $1.99 a month?
A SIM card only allows backups of tel numbers, not contact addr, notes, pics etc details most phones allow added to each contact. Even if it did, it doesn't help if you have lost your phone.
Since At&t requires an application download to reside on your phone, there is a good possibility they are not using sync standard SyncML, since it is already embedded in most phones.
