During the same 24 hours that
BenQ called it quits on the digital camera market, Kodak has reportedly had similar thoughts when eying its low-end camera lineup. According to CNET,
Kodak President Antonio Perez shared that the firm would be "abandoning the low-end of the digital camera business" at the JPMorgan Technology Conference in Boston. He also added that while the company "wasn't making much money" in that segment, it was developing its own five-megapixel
CMOS sensor to be used in a (presumably mid-range) Kodak-branded digicam. More interesting, however, was the addition that this very sensor would also make its way into "several Motorola cell phones by the end of the year." Unsurprisingly, Mr. Perez was fairly tight-lipped about any further details on the deal, but it's about time we saw something more
advanced than a grainy 1.3-megapixel shooter built into mainstream handsets.
wow finally gonna see motorola with a 5 megapixel camera. Motorola truly are gonna shoot in the future
Yeah, shoot blanks.
with what? multi-color razrs and Qs?
And to think that I used to like Motorola . . . I can't even take them seriously now-a-days since they seem so much more concerned with colors than improving their technology. The KRZR has an even smaller screen and resolution than the previous RZRs with their large screens yet their resolution wasn't even at least the decent 320x240 to view pictures and videos. Just let the RAZR die already, Motorola!
P.S. LG came out with a 5 megapixel camera phone in late 2005/early 2006 so 5 megapixels is nothing new. Of course the quality isn't as good as 3.2+ megapixel camera phones today, but still . . . it's been done before.
Geez, thank god! I work in camera retail and I loath the times that costumers come in asking for a Kodak, we really have to re-educate them. Their camera have horrible image quality and are cheaply made, yet always overpriced.
I hope they will be better than the lousy C series cameras!!!!!
