Verizon launches VCAST Song ID
If you're like us and are forever scribbling sticky notes or text notes on your handset when you hear a song you like -- provided you actually get the title from the radio announcer -- Verizon now has you covered with VCAST Song ID. This free download (yeah, free!) for supported VCAST handsets lets you identify a song by clicking a button, holding it up to the speaker, and then viola! The software will automagically tell you the name of the song, the artist, and even the album name. Of course, this is where the cost bit comes in, if you wish, you are then able to download the track to your handset over the air, or, of course, armed with this free info you can zip home and fire up whatever P2P software makes you happy.

how do you use it on the moto q
yo, my shit stopped working. i just got the env 2 and the music id was working great but now it wont go past "analyzing musical dna". i tryed updating by calling the*228 and *22980 numbers and it still wont work. who knows how to fix my shit and is this only happening to me?
If you do not support vcast, as in saying vcast costs money, so if you don't does it cost money to do the music reconigiton?
Can you get the VCast song ID on a phone that is from US Cellular??? or same thing called differently??
This just showed up on my Storm.
It's yet to recognize a song. It's yet to recognize that it's even hearing a song. I just get "LISTENING" indefinitely.
I had the same problem w/ my storm. You have to go into your options/advanced options/applications. Then find songid and edit permissions. Change all the permissions to Allow then save. It should then try to figure out the song. I can't get it to tell me what any song is, even when I am in a quiet room with it up to my computer speaker playing a song from itunes. Go figure.
I just got my Storm about 3 or 4 days ago, and I recently downloaded songID and the same thing is happening to me! It loads the app up fine, but when I put it next to a speaker, it just constantly says listening but never lists anything!! It says to hold it there for 10 seconds, and last night I held it by a speaker for about 2 minutes and nothing registered....any suggestions!?
@Blaidd, I too have the storm and could not figure out Song ID. I read every post here and when I got to yours, I did exactly what you said to do one time, and my VCast Song ID worked the very first time I tried it in about 15-20 seconds! All I did was change from "Custom" to "Allow". The song I tested is a new song as -Pretty Wings, Artist : Maxwell. OK while adding this comment an old song came on the radio so I'm trying it again, and it WORKS! -the Track : Jam On It, the Artist : Newcleus. Song ID Identifies the Album too. The BEST thing about this is, I do not subscribe to VCast Music Rapsody!......
After testing two more songs I received emails, which I had already set up for in the vcast song id settings, for each song within minutes with further info for the possible down loads....I'M Happy, Thanks Blaidd!
Yes! mine wasn't working either and i just changed my settings to Allow (it's automatically set to custom for some reason, not sure why if it doesn't work that way...?) And now it works perfectly!! Thank you to those who posted this suggestion!
I have yet to find a song this thing CAN'T identify, works great!
finally...it only took forever considering at&t has had this for quite a while now
Strange, it says that Song IDentity is $.99/1 use, $5.79/6 uses, and $8.99/10 uses on my E815m. Go figure!
That's because you're not using VCAST Song ID... you're using a fee-based program that came out before this. Basically, if you pay the $$$ for VCAST Music, this new program is free for you... because they want you to buy the songs.
my razr V3M says the same thing. The one guy that replied before me said "Basically, if you pay the $$$ for VCAST Music, this new program is free for you" ....
vcast music is free, only the songs cost money. So the v3m, and e815m should be capable of getting this. The supported list that someone typed above is, i believe only a partial list according to the press release...
still trying to find the option on my v3m.
Just looked up the list of "Supported Phones":
LG Chocolate
LG enV
LGE VX9400
LG VX8700
Samsung SCH-u620
So if the program is free, does it only use air time or do you also have to subscribe to a data plan for it to be completely free?
Song IDentity isn't the same thing as VCAST Song ID. There was a discussion on this over at HowardForums. I can't see it on my VX8600 either, so maybe Verizon didn't update the system yet?
If you subscribe to VCAST Music on your phone, you will NOT use airtime... but yes, you have to have that "data plan." It's $15 a month, which also gives you access to Vcast video.
It won't automatically show up on your phone, it's a GIN download and it's free... and I could be wrong but from my understanding you do NOT have to subscribe to VCAST for this service... not sure though.
On Verizon's website it says nothing about needing a Data plan, which is why I'm wondering... here's the site: http://getitnow.vzwshop.com/index.aspx?id=news_going_details&appId=5768 all it says is "Airtime required for use"
Yeah, just like Verizon take a competitor's product, copy it and slightly change the name.
They've done it many times before. Cingular launched Music ID years ago, and now Verizon launches Song ID.
The problem is that Cingular/AT&T never really marketed it. Or if they did, they sure didn't target anything I was reading, watching or listening to. I just recently got a Blackjack and was happy to see that application loaded on there. It's pretty cool how it works.
Yes but VCAST song ID allowed you to then purchase the song, a ringtone, or ringbacktone of the song right then and there... I don't think AT&T allows you to do that ;-)
uh, music i.d. has a link right there on that page to download it as a ringtone
JNels here with Verizon Wireless. Folks here are right - we've had "plain old" Song ID for a couple years (which is a pay per ID kind of service). For the *new* V CAST SONG ID, it's free on the specified phones (and will roll out to additional handsets). IF you have the *old* Song ID on your device, you need to remove it in order to upload the *new* (free) one.
Jeffrey, do you have to subscribe to a data plan for it to be completely "free"? Or does it just work like Get it Now where you only get charged airtime while using this program?
The SongID thing says it costs $.99 on my phone. Is that because my phone isn't really a V-Cast phone or is that the price it costs to download a song and I can ID it for free?
Wow, I should probably read the comments before I post anything that makes me look stupid.
This is a cool idea. Sprint needs to get something like this. I have probably about killed myself in the car a number of times trying to write a song name down!
its under the games section....
just kidding...my bad..i cant read
I'm not trying to be negative, but as a non-Verizon customer, what are the positives to paying $15 a month for V-Cast? Seems like a waste of money to have the ability to download songs.

It's a lot more than that. It also gives you unlimited mobile web (WAP), and unlimited access to VCAST Videos, which includes thousands of streaming on-demand videos in your hand... anything from music videos to movie trailers to comedy sketches to youtube clips to news, sports, weather and more. And with VCAST us't 100% airtime free.
Ah, its not that bad of a deal. I'm looking at the Sprint SERO deal, a lot cheaper.
try doing *22890 to update your data software and it should show up. when i got the shine (8700) i could not even get vz tones deluxe then i did *22890, and there was all the apps. And no it is not the same as *228 option 2. *22890 is for data only
A little off topic, but I'd rellay like to know how this works, if anybody has an answer or a link they can send me to. I've been researching and can't find anything. Shouldn't be possible in my eyes, on a scientific level. Is this RFid?
Good question.. it works like this (or at least Shazam does): http://www.sciencenews.org/articles/20070428/mathtrek.asp
ok, i just download the song id app. however, it disappeared, and when i try to acess it, via music and tones, get new tones, get new application, there is an icon for music recognition. i click on it and it then says no items were found. where can i find this application that i just downloaded?
Available on the VX8600 as of yesterday and it works great!
