"Major announcement" from HTC on June 5
HTC is apparently poised to shock and awe (or attempt to, at least) invited guests on June 5 -- less than two weeks away -- with a "major announcement" of some sort. Very little is known at this point what the company plans on unveiling here, but this is the most glitz and mystique we can recall leading up to an HTC press event, so we guess it's gotta be good. The invitation (pictured) apparently says that the event will usher in "a new mobile experience that will change the way we use and control our phones." Considering that the iPhone is largely billed in the same way (with multi-touch) and the HTC event comes just days before its release, it seems Taiwan's finest might be looking to steal a little Apple thunder here.

One of the reps at work for AT&T said the Kaiser might be released in late June or early July. I hope they officially announce that at press conference.

Oh this is gonna be good. Hahaha.
I'm a bit excited. I'm still waiting for a replacement for my XDA Exec. :)
I wish they would just release the HTC Shift stateside now!!!
Could that be the much anticipated HTC Kaiser?
I bet it'll be a hockey-puck-shaped, acceleration-based mobile device that lets you navigate menus by spinning it.
oh man i wanna know what it is
I hope it's the Kaiser!!!!
It is probably going to be about their UMPC.
Come on its gonna be Multi Touch or something similar, just look at the promo picture the woman is using at least 2 fingers to touch the number 5.
And my bet is its going to be launhced the Elf or somehting similar, which unlike most HTC devices has some sleek styling abnd it looks a bit Iphone like...... oh and the Elf is not 3G so is will no doubt be on wide release over here in the states.
Good on you HTC lets show those Apple fan boys what a real Smartphone can do!!!!
oh please, HTC are so second rate - i should know as i bought the XDA Atom. Second rate from hardware quality (buzzing flickering screens, battery, etc), to their choice of software partners.
One thing in their defense, when not actually touching their devices but just looking at them from a distance - they do look pleasing. Shame things don't stay that way once you get hands-on with them.
Anyone want to bet money that this is the official announcement of the X7501 for the US?
The new phone control reference probably has to do with the VueFLO motion sensing/browser control technology that they built into the X7500/X7501.
What a smartphone can do? be fat, ugly and need a stylus, not work with 3G and work with non standard mini-usb plugs. I think i'll wait for the iphone... and did someone mention WM 6.0 at least that is a plus...if you've been suffering with 5. I just went to the BGR site and saw the unboxing of the ELF and I really hope that isn't what is coming on the 5th... That is what pale faced whale. The fit and finish on that is terrible and I hope that isn't a stylus that I see.
Hmm so the Iphone is oging to be 3G, i don't think so, and HTC uses mini usb works just fine on the one I have.
And as for a stylus, well that might be useful on the Iphone when big fudgy fingers start typing 2 or 3 letters at once with all that mltitouch stuff going on.
Oh and a Smartphone is defined as a phnoe with an open OS, not something controlled by Steve Jobs.
Get real Appple fan boy.
FYI, the XDA Atom is made by Quanta, not HTC.
Quanta has not been in the mobile phone game for very long, and their two handsets on tha market right now (the Atom and Atom Life) have small problems with them accordingly.
Hi Naz,
thanks for the info; my bad for getting that wrong, i was under the impression that the XDA's were made by HTC.
ummmm yeah the iPhone is actually EDGE technology. It isnt 3G either! Oh and FYI HTC products are now going towards UMTS, Smartguy ;)
I agree with the mini-usb comment - perfectly standard connector. and iphone non-3g - well yep it's not. but to call Windows Mobile an open OS...? c'mon, are you serious?
i have to ask, am i the only one who sees some wisdom in initially locking down the iphone to only the standard set of software...? Doesn't it make sense to wait until say 100,000 iphones are out there and all is well, that then the next step can be made with 3rd party apps?
...just curious, as it seems so logical to me, but seemingly nobody else... :)
It's not the announcement of the HTC Advantage in the U.S., that has already been announced. Goto www.htc.com, its on the right side of the page. It could be the Kaiser, but its most likely something we haven't seen before. The HTC Shift will not compete with the iPhone, the shift is a laptop, it has a 7 inch screen, its not feasible that you could carry it on your person, youd have to put it in a bag like you would a laptop.
Isn't Quanta one of the two chinese phone manufactures selected by Apple to make their iPhones?
