Must be a typo.

what i can't figure out is why some one would pay an extra $125 for a phone that, spec-wise, is identical to the sync? sure it's 3mm thinner and 5g lighter, but c'mon is that worth it?

Pablo

Comments on Grab your wallets, Samsung A717 now on AT&T's site

Well I didn't exactly pay the full amount for the phone... I'm a business customer and got a great hook up at the local Cingular... er... AT&T store. I don't know if the guy that helped me was just too friggin new, or if I actually rated the discount, but I wasn't questioning it. I paid $100 plus tax minus a $50 MIR.

I do like the rolling camera and the the missing "huge" caller ID screen on the outside of the phone. I always hated those things. It's a thing of beauty. Then again, you're also trading the external color screen & music controls for a diminutive OLED display (which I prefer anyway).

Does it justify the price difference? Maybe not, but just wait a few months. Would you really expect a carrier to _release_ any new 3G phone to the general public at a $50 price point?

Cactus

Comments on Grab your wallets, Samsung A717 now on AT&T's site

someone help me out here. im missing the point of this thing. why would you get this instead of the cu500v? seriously. what am i not understanding that makes this phone worth over $100 more?

Robbie

Comments on Grab your wallets, Samsung A717 now on AT&T's site

video share ... but is it worth it? the person on the receiving also has to have a video share device ... then there is the monthly charge for that service ...

geoff

Comments on Grab your wallets, Samsung A717 now on AT&T's site

Eck.

I had this all figured out until now.
I was going to upgrade my phone in a month or so,
and I was fairly certain that I was going to pick up a SYNC.

Now, I'm torn.

I liked the idea of not even having to open my phone to chose a song with the whole external screen of the SYNC, but if the A717's inside is screen is better and there's a rotating camera, I don't know which to choose.

Suggestions and ideas?

I need a phone that will hang around with me until the 2G iPhone comes around...
Hopefully in a year and a half or something...

Jeremy

Comments on Grab your wallets, Samsung A717 now on AT&T's site

The reason for this product is to get down into "slip into any pants pocket" form factor of the RAZR... the CU500 and the SYNC don't do that, too thick.... anyway, it'll be $50 before long

I've got one, awesome sound quality, awesome antenna, awesome display

stmckin

Comments on Grab your wallets, Samsung A717 now on AT&T's site

Has anyone had a problem with the A717 dropping calls? It would heat up on the back above the battery area and also on the keypad which is next to your face when you're on a call. AND soon after it would drop the call and would not become operable again until it cooled off in about 5+ minutes. UGH. The first suggestion by AT&T's tech support was updates which would never download. After another round of calls and checking the tower signals in the areas where I work and live (which turned out to be acceptable), they asked me to have the battery replaced, which I did. Then, the replacement phone was sent. Still just as all along the way in the weeks from when I originally reported the excess heating and dropped calls, the same thing occurred with the replacement phone. As of right now, I am awaiting delivery of a 2nd replacement phone of a different maker. They said this is usually not allowed but I told them absolutely no way I was interested in getting another A717 ! After looking online I find out that this phone is no longer available in my area. GO FIGURE. Do not buy this phone.

p d greenwood
