There are *many many* phones on the "open market" right now priced above it...like the LG Prada.
The Lack of WCDMA/3G? LG's phone doesn't have it either and costs more...
The Lack of Storage? LG's phone only does transflash...and Sony's 950i has 4Gigs and is averaging about $30 less than the 4GB model...

Is it the hype machine?

Its it Cingulatt? Or is it Apple?

I mean, there seems to be just a weird lack of objectivity here for a crowd thats supposed to be "cutting edge". All things being equal, it seems like, tech-wise to be a not so bad package. Ok, it doesn't have "3G" but there are a hell of a lot of phones released in the last 6 months in the price range that don't either that haven't drawn anywhere near the ire or vitriol as this one.

What gives?
Can anyone honestly address this without childish name calling and fallacy arguments?

Kai Cherry

Comments on Apple readying three million iPhones for launch?

Hey Kai,
Its the hype backlash. Its also a function of the media lacking objectivity too. All the analysts and media on the iPhone for the most part ignores any faults in the device. Its being poised as the most amazing device this world has ever seen. For the average individual its not that big of a deal cause they may encounter this a few times before launch. For mobile device addicts, this means that we have are bombarded with a ridiculous amount of hype, and I do mean ridiculous. I don't condone the iPhone bashing at all. I think it has potential. I'm just making a suggestion as to why the iPhone bashing exists.

copperhead

Comments on Apple readying three million iPhones for launch?

I agree. People have expectations for this phone that are really high, and it's expected to be bleeding edge hardware, so maybe thats behind the lament of the lack of 3G. Honestly, I don't think its a deal killer, and Apple obviously has alot invested in this phone, so I'm sure that the lack of 3G won't be the end of the world, and the software is probably optimized to work well with what it has. As far as the amount of memory, Apple figured most people already have iPods, so there really isn't a need for an obscene amount of memory, considering the iPhone's already high cost.

Alot of people just have nothing better to do, and yes, iPod's have had their quality issues, but show me any product distributed in that volume, that doesn't have some form of quality issues? That's why companies have warranties.

Personally, I'll buy one, use it happily, and then sell it when I hear confirmed rumors of an upgrade and buy that one too.

dred550

Comments on Apple readying three million iPhones for launch?

i dont understand the hate either. i wont buy one for the fact that its missing features i want. Those of you sayin' there are other open market phones priced higher or equally or just a "little" less expensive. Just consider than when you're buyin' those 'OPEN market', less expensive phones, you're not agreeing into a 2 year contract with an already extremely expensive data plan with "The new at&t".

You might as well get the LG Prada unlocked for a 'little' bit more, unlocked and use it with T-Mobile's MUCH cheaper data plans, since you're not gonna be using 3G with either phone.

In a way EngadgetMobile's point is exactly that, the phone is NOT unlocked or 'open market', and on top you're bound to a 2 yr agreement on an expensive dataplan (in comparison) when you're not getting the 3G anyway, so you might as well opt out for T-Mobile's cheaper non-3G (just like the iphone) data plans/network.

MrLuna

Comments on Apple readying three million iPhones for launch?

yeah...opt for tmobile's cheaper data plans, while hoping and praying you don't have to stray more than about 5 miles from the interstate so you don't lose service

Will

Comments on Apple readying three million iPhones for launch?

Apple make very very few products that could be considered a failure. I think the biggest haters of the iPhone are the little kids here who's mommny and daddy aren't going to pony up the cash for it. They are stuck with with Hiptop Sidekicks and make some of the pain go away by bad mouthing a device that they don't have and probably will never get to own. They call this SOUR GRAPES. You may not have learned about it in school yet, but that's what it is. SOUR GRAPES.

The fact is, this phone is super cool. 3G or not, you can't aruge that this phone is absolutely cutting edge and will just rock like all of Apples products. It may have some flaws, and be lacking a feature or two, but that doesn't justify calling it "crap".

So all you little kiddies out there keep typing away on your Sidekicks (also NOT 3G) about how crappy the iPhone is while the rest of us are rockin' the day away with music, videos and sooooooo much more.

bob.autrey

Comments on Apple readying three million iPhones for launch?

I do that on my treo, and it's cheaper, and it has 3g.
