iPhone to ship on June 29th at 6pm

Those of you that already have your calendars marked for the big day can now set your watches as well, as Steve himself not only reiterated the iPhone's launch date during his Jobsnote, but let loose the actual time it'll ship as well: 6:00pm. What's not so clear, however, is if that's 6pm Pacific, or 6pm in each location, which'd give folks on the east coast a few precious hours of bragging rights while their buddies in less-fortunate time zones are still waiting in line.

So does this mean that it will be avaliable for purchase in stores at 6pm? Or does it mean that's the the time it will be shipped? Just a little confused...
I'm guessing that is when it will go on sale, meaning people can start lining up and expect to be let in to get their iPhones at 6 on the dot... at least at Apple stores. AT&T, I'm sure, will find some way to screw the whole operation up.
That's kind of stupid. So does that mean that Cingular stores will not actually receive the phones until the weekend or possibly monday? And if so, doesnt that push the actual "release date" back to July 2? I do not understand the logic behind the last minute wait.
I'm sorry, but this IS a little cultish. The TIME! It's a phone for COL. A really creative software implementation on a totally unproven PDA / phone platform, which doesn't sound very productive for business users, and is outrageously priced. Trendy beyond your wildest dreams but productive and useable, we must wait and see.
I'd like to reiterate what Ryan said: Does it go on sale to customers at 6PM or ship from Apple to various stores at 6PM on the 29th. If it's the latter, it wouldn't arrive in the stores for a few days.
It's interesting because we at ATT have an earlier date to launch the POS...
Yeah, this is just plain stupid. Since when do we have to wait 9 hours after the store is open to buy a new phone??!!
Apple just playing games, they want you to beg. I don't need the iPod turned cell phone. Good luck standing in line.
I agree with OzzieDog. Unless you're a huge Apple fan who doesn't already have an iPod or huge hard drive mp3 player, and don't mind spending the extra money on gadgets, I don't really see that many regular iPod/music users lining up for this phone. Most of the iPod users I know are happy with their iPod and would never spend that much on a phone, no matter how appealing and overhyped it is.
