The Boy Genius Report: T-Mobile's new Sidekicks?
Field tidbits from Engadget's mobile insider, The Boy Genius.
Yeah, they're just renderings, but they sure do look believable, don't they? Or maybe we just want to believe -- we can't really tell any more -- but for what it's worth, we're allegedly looking at a pair of future Sidekicks destined for Danger's favorite carrier, T-Mobile. Details are slim, but the Sidekick Slide seems to be the Motorola-sourced device we've been hearing about, considering the big, fat "M" logo to the left of the display. The one on the left is a little more mysterious considering that it's merely labeled "Sidekick," but it seems a likely candidate to succeed the 3. Whether either one of these is the oft-rumored "Zante" is unclear, but either way, it seems Danger's got its plate full for the next few months!

I've been a sidekick fan since my then girlfriend introduced me to it a few years back. Now she's my wife and has switched to a BB Pearl, but I still love the 'kick. All I want in the next version is a better screen and WiFi. Is that too much to ask?
sick of the damn sidekicks, over saturated crap imo. both of these renderings dont add much.
The 1st one (Sidekick) looks HOT! It would have looked better in an all shiny black color instead of the "Soft touch - T-Mobile Wing" looking navy blue. Hopefully, the screen is updated to atleast QVGA resolution and the Camera is 2.0 MPs WITH video recording & Video playback! The second one just looks wierd.... The screen is way too small for the flap. Hopefully with these concept pics they've enlarged the screen.
I use to be a SIDEKICK fan, but not anymore because i have bad reception in my house. I would've stay with T-Mobile, but now i have Verizon Wireless LG enV because it's better than the SIDEKICK 3. If the new SIDEKICK upgraded some things like the camera, resolution, video, WiFi, and maybe 3G (HSDPA). It would be cool if those buttons were touch-sensitive like the LG Chocolate. I would go back to T-Mobile, but for now I'll stay with Verizon.
the sidekicks really cant have all of those things,
because the screen swivels, so they have to use lower pixels so the screen wouldnt mess up and the screen shift to one side
haha I broke my sidekick and now, i call it SIDEKICK 360
The screen swivels 360 now haha
the phone is a TANK!
plus, the swivel is trademarked
thats why the other phones dont have it.
I was having the same thoughts about video and better quality
You cant trademark a mechanical thing - its called a patent. And, patents only last so many years. This is why it was changed when Sharp took over the manufacturing. Moron.
mmmmm... God forbid I make such a mistake.
and how old are you?
40s?
With all the rumors of UMA (i.e. phone over Wi-Fi networks) coming to T-Mobile, I would imagine that at least one of the two concepts pictured above would have Wi-Fi in it -- if not for internet access, so that it can take advantage of that service when it launches for voice calls. So if you get great reception everywhere but your house, and you have your own personal Wi-Fi at home, you now have great coverage everywhere!
To those of you considering an enV over the Sidekick, try both of them out. The enV's IM client and other apps are much less usable than the ones on the Sidekick. The Sidekicks main problem is its lack of a speedy network, and slightly oversized nature. It does get the job done though. To me, usability is a much nicer feature. The enV's interface just seems not so good.
I would love to see an updated Sidekick. I was not very impressed with the SK3 and balked on changing from my SK2 that I've had for 1.5y now. The SK platform reminds me of the early days of the Palm platform with tightly integrated, minimalist apps focused on usability. The right mockup definitely needs to lose the Motorola logo on the screen and fill that whole slider.
When the SK3 first came out, I wasn't immediately impressed either, but having used it for a few months now, I am a big fan of the SK3 over the SK2. The SK keypad is the ost comfortable to use of any phone I've played with. And while there are some things it could do better, what it does, it does pretty well. Add in the price of service and I don't mind it topping out at EDGE.
And I'd like to add better bluetooth compatability to the better screen and WiFi. Would asking that the browser be able to handle Flash be too much?
I CAN'T WAIT. i had a SK3 and it got stolen, i'm waiting for this one. but is it REALLY comming out, or is it a myth? if it is, when will it becomming out?
