No iPhone eh? Apple's launch in Canada still on hold
Le sigh, it seems -- and really, this isn't coming as a huge surprise -- that the Great White North is going to have to cool its heels and wait a while for Apple's big handset release. Rogers Wireless' CFO Bill Linton was quoted saying "The truth is we aren't very far with Apple," and this of course can be roughly translated as follows: Canada will have to wait. Sadly we have no clue when the iPhone may pop up on Rogers Wireless, but we're hoping that it arrives in time for the holiday season -- and yeah, we mean this year, Ted.[Via TUAW]

Rogers official word on the iPhone is 6-8 months after the US launch. I can't wait that long though :(
DAMN YOU TED!
I didn't realize people would get so upset over not being able to have a device with an extremely poor text input interface (virtual keyboard).
Typing with your thumbs on an iPhone = Exercise in futility! LOL
haha that sucks for america's hat
Be happy Canadians - let the Americans beta test it for you. :)
Personally, I'm happy to pass on 1st gen product with a 2 year contract but only a 1 year warranty.
Seriously! We in the states have to resort to wretched self-restraint to save ourselves from the fate of early adoption of the iPhone. You canucks are fortunate enough to have the thoughtul Rogers protecting you from the nightmare of first-gen bugs
The sad thing is even if you wait the 6-8 months for the iPhone, you'll still have to wait 4 to 5 years for an affordable data plan.
Americans: $30/month for unlimited data.
Canadians: $100 for 100MB of data, or 20 music tracks, wow, now that's value for your money!
Lets hope there are some new GSM entrants to the wireless spectrum, and soon.
The real reason for the delay is that there won't be a market in Canada with the current data plans. Sprint has unlimited data plans for $15 a month with some PDA phones. That would cost thousands in Canada.
ya forget about an "iPlan" in Canada...that would consist of 2 MB data, 5 sms messages and 100 daytime minutes...all for $100/month...oh and don't forget that a 2 year contract pretty much doesn't exist in Canada.

Ridiclious. Can Tmobile please move into canada...or anyone with GSM service!
Maybe Rogers will let us activate the phone without the horribly expensive data-plan (ie: just using WIFI whenever you are in a hot-spot). This would serioulsy downgrade its capabilities but would allow us to enjoy the I-phone until competition allows the price for a resonalby good data plan to drop.
What are your thoughts on this?
Buy Canadian! Blackberry all the way!
by the time roger release the iPhone, Apple will already release their 2nd gen iphone xD
