Moto's cellphone division needs a 180 degree turn around. I have used many Moto products and they used to be the best (and profitable), now they are something I'd scrape off my shoe (Razr anyone). If they want to be profitable in the long run, they really need to focus on quality, both of the hardware AND the software. Of 7 moto phones I've owned in as many months, 6 have been returned due to defects (usually software based it seems, losing contacts, lockups, etc.)

Octothorpe

Comments on Motorola's profit forecast goes from bad to worse

I don't understand this. I don't follow Moto very closely, but it seems like two years ago, Motorola was enjoying the phenomenal success of the RAZR.

What happened?

flamer's grill

Comments on Motorola's profit forecast goes from bad to worse

What happened is that Motorola became far too dependent on the RAZR and it's offspring. They put all of their eggs in one basket, to borrow a cliche. In a market this saturated, and this technologically fluid, manufacturers have to have a diversity of products. Motorola didn't do that and now their reaping what they've sown.

Omagus

Comments on Motorola's profit forecast goes from bad to worse

flamer'sgrill: sounds like that's what happened.

Motorola bet their farm entirely on the RAZRs, RAZRs are now heavily subsidized, while the rest of their stuff (RIZR, PEBL, ROKR) were all crap, and so hence what it is now.

Taking 2 years or more to fix the RAZRs crappy interface/OS is way too long a time. The basic RAZR is like the best phone they have, even though other phones that has more stuff like the KRZR, the RAZR is still better than them. I'm thinking the RAZR 2 is not going to do well in sales because Motorola faulty phones like they always lags (Verizon phones). LG is better i think.

Novey

Comments on Motorola's profit forecast goes from bad to worse

Maybe if they launched some new phones instead of launching pictures of phones it would help. Also quit screwing americans over by not offering choices to them. the u.s. moto store is pathetic. We should be able to buy any phone they make unlocked from the u.s. site, with a u.s. warranty, for a reasonable price.. if we buy from asain sources(most ebay phones) they will not honer the warranty in the u.s. I understand I guess if carries dont want to handle the higher end phones, but we should be able to buy them from the moto store, just like the rest of the world can.

tim
