Apple's iPhone marketing dude clears up some points
Who better to field questions about the iPhone than the guy from Apple's own guided tour video, right? Pioneer Press' Julio Ojeda-Zapata had a chance to chat with him on a couple occasions (turns out he's Bob Borchers, Apple's senior director of worldwide product marketing for the iPhone) and he was able to squeeze answers to a couple pressing matters out of him -- things like "WTF is with the recessed headphone jack?" and "can the iPhone be upgrade to 3G, please?" The answers are all pretty predictable ("we had to" and "it's a hardware issue" for these two, respectively) but it's a good read nonetheless. We especially like the bit promising "a lot of improved functionality that will be rolled out on a regular basis."

WTF @ "older computers" part
I've had my share of problems since the iPod went USB.. I've always wished that Apple would've atleast given an option to connect to a Mac via FireWire, I have a FireWire cable, but of course the iPod says "connect via USB blah blah" because it can't handle it.
I miss FireWire iPods. If only Apple didn't take their time with bringing USB 2.0 to Macs.. it seemed like USB 2 was on just about every PC out there by the time they "started" to implement USB on Macs.
So why don't you just purchase a USB 2.0 PCI card. They're relatively inexpensive and easy to install. I use some old B&W Smurf as my iPod media machine. It's old but it's useful for this purpose. I installed some PCI combo card with FW and USB 2.0 and it works fine under OSX.
Remember: Not all Macs are PowerMacs
