iPhone survives freezing temperatures, won't work with gloves
It's been a tick since anyone was brave enough to put their mobile through frozen conditions after that whole i-mate JAQ ordeal, but a fellow at f-secure did manage to put his own iPhone to the test to see just how well it would operate after a half hour in the freezer. Though Apple lists the "nonoperating temperature" as -4° to 113° Fahrenheit, this particular iPhone chilled out in -4° temperatures for 30 solid minutes before finally escaping, and while the touchscreen wouldn't respond at all to glove-covered fingertips, bare hands managed to show that all functionality was still in tact. Granted, it wasn't frozen in a block of ice or anything, but folks residing in bitterly cold locales can rest assured that their iPhone will indeed survive the frigid winters to come. am i the only one sick and tired of hearing about the iphone??
This story just convinced me that I NEED an iPhone.
-4 F? Bitterly Cold? I don't think so, test it at -20 to -30 and then you MIGHT be able call that bitterly cold.
Pretty normal to nokia to work on thouse temps or it for sure would sell anything here in Fin ;)
"all functionality was still in tact"
... but not your spelling! The word is INTACT.
I need mine to survive colder than -4 F temps if it is going to make it through the Minnesota winter.
Dude! iPhones are for Californians, man. You can't use an iPhone wearing gloves!
Dude, you got to move man, 'cause your iPhone is too cool but you don't want to touch it in a sub-zero Minnesota winter. What if your finger is just a bit damp and sticks to your iPhone like a kid's tongue to a freezer shelf.
Dude, you got to move!
More importantly:
I want to know if this thing can take 4 hours in in my car in the middle of the day here in Phoenix this time of year.
Why would you leave ANY electronic device in a hot car for 4 hours? Just take it with you.
Well I'd never do it on purpose but I have left my iPod in my car still hooked up to my FM transmitter on a few occasions while baking for several hours in the Arizona sun... still works like a charm but it also all black (8 gig nano) so it's hot as hell to touch after that :-(
I have yet to do this with my cell phone (not an iPhone) though.
So the phone will work but will people fingers work after exposing them to the elements everytime they need to interact with the phone ... good call Apple.
