Sharp's Sidekick "Shuriken" hooks up with FCC
We're still not sure whether this is the legit Sidekick 4 -- you know, the true successor to the Sidekick 3, as opposed to some tangential compromise like the Sidekick iD -- but we're definitely encouraged by Sharp's internal designation for this sucker. It's been assigned the model number "PV250" to be exact, which would put it above the Sidekick 3's PV200 (and well above the iD's PV150), suggesting that the Shuriken is likely the next-gen Sidekick we should all be getting excited about, not the Slide from Motorola. Then again, it seems like there isn't much new here; it should get a healthy 3-inch widescreen display, which is nice and all, but 3G data is still nowhere to be found. Guess you need a functioning 3G network to offer 3G devices, eh, T-Mobile?

Great. Now I can't decide what I want. Motorola Zante or Shuriken.
Which ones does everyone else want, and why?
Yes, unless you are still in Junior High, why on earth would you want a Sidekick period? Good question.
@elgee
same could be said for the iPhone, but at least the sidekick does picture messaging. get over yourself.
What makes you think I give a rats ass about the iHype?
Sidekick is a kids toy. I looks ridiculous in the hands of anyone older than 15 years old.
As of right now, the shuriken, Mostly because of the screen. However, I need to know more specs, because i realy would love a higher camera than that 1.3mp crap and a screen resolution that will allow for video playback.
To Elgee, the main reason for continuing owning a kick is due to the rate plan. One can get almost the same services on the kick that you would get on an Wing, BB, or Dash and a much lower monthly rate. Consider unlimited internet access, unlimited text and picture mesage, email access(including gmail push), and a real IM messenger for 19.99 with any voice plan. We as to get the same services on the other devices would be as follows: 29.99 for unlimited internet with Wi-Fi and 14.99 for unlimited text(may have changed to 9.99); thats 39.98-44.98, a 20-25 dollar difference. Granted you get the freedom of your own apps, but the current paid apps for the kick are not that bad and quiet productive. Anyway whats good for some, may not be for others.
I want the 4 not the slide
why would you want either? i agree.
get an E90
THe sidekicks are the most functional phones out there. Physically the OS wide. There is nothing to learn - unless you are an idiot.
I will concede that the data plan t-mob offers on that thing is a bargain, and functionality it IM's and texts like a breeze. But personally I think the style is too toyish (plus the ratio of teens to adults I've seen owning this thing is like 5:1), the price is steep and I'd never own a cellphone that lacked 3g in this day and age. Maybe t-mob will have 3g launched out when the sidekick 5 rolls around eh? ;-)
@ elgee02
sidekicks are wayyy know among deaf cultures. and they all are above age 15..
look at college kids, like at RIT/NTID college.
sooo yea. over 1.5 million qwerty phones has been sold. and more than a million was sidekicks.
get over yourself.
i think the sk4 is going to be a HUGE upgrade from any past Danger devices. i work for t-mobile customer care, so as a rep i can say i know this will be a much bigger seller than the SK RAZR or Slide or wtfever they're calling it. and yes, Recon, you're right about the cheaper features making the SK an all around more attractive deal. I have a Dash (my 5th one from warranty exchg) and its GARBAGE. i've been wanting a sk bad, and once the SK4 is officially released (can't say when, but expect it before Thanksgiving) i am going to be one of the first to get my excited lil' hands on one!! :)
plus, anything made by motorolla is garbage. you may as well use the SKZ as a paperweight. this also means a seperate department for the Z, because they're going to have to classify it as a Moto or a Danger. either way, the exchange/repair process is going to be extremely long & difficult as i forsee a LOT of probs with a Moto/SK hybrid device..stick to Danger and be happy with your phone! F*ck windows mobile I HATE YOU! hah.
the only reason i am even attracted to the sk4 is because (other than a better price plan) is the fact that i think danger is finally trying to be comprable to all the smartphones on the market today. the big, bulky sidekick shape was so unflattering that is was mostly younger kids who had it, again for the rate plan and possibly the durability and stupid cases and skins. now, since smartphones are taking over the majority of sales, even to the 'younger crowd' you're referring to, the need to keep up. i love the fact that is is finally slim, with a much improved looking wide screen, the beautiful pearlescent (Wing-color) blue finish, and i can't live without my QWERTY or i'd have gone with the pearl instead of my endlessly failing Dash. i think the sk4 is going to open up an even better start to the way handhelds and smartphones will compare. guess we'll just wait and see, and it does give me a damn good reason to renew since i have nooo contract (whee!) heh.
and carlo why do you keep telling people to get over themselves? i don't get it. maybe you should get over the fact that different people have different opintions?
ok i went 2 a t mobile store 2day and da ppl der said dat dey arent gonna even HAVE INFO on da sidekick 4 (shuriken) til NEXT MONTH!!!
Does Anyone knw if sidekick works in Kuwait?
