Palm pulls faulty updates for Verizon's Treo 700p/w/wx
Responding to an apparent groundswell of customer complaints, Palm has pulled recent software updates for its Treo 700p, 700w, and 700wx smartphones operating on the Verizon network. Palm calls the problems "network connectivity issues," frequently accompanied by an Error 3000 that prevents the device from consuming data. For what it's worth, Palm says that the error "does not affect your device or personal data in any other way," though we imagine that's little consolation for folks finding themselves without email access following an update. The company promises to repost the patches once the problems are worked out; no ETA has been given at this point.[Via Brighthand]

...and speaking of more of Palm's bad press, whatever happened with that Fool--i mean, Foleo ??
Finally! Thanks Engadget for FINALLY covering this horrid story!
Thank you Engadget for covering this. The Treo 700P on Verizon was, at the time of purchase, heralded as a premier business tool. The inability to retain a data connection makes it worse that simply "not being able to check e-mail." Every time the device loses the data signal the entire device slows down or crashes. I tend to have to reset my phone any time I want to make a phone call.
I decided a few months back to eschew the 750p and all future Palm devices for either the 6800 or i760, which ever launches first. Just haven't been happy with the stability reports I've been hearing.
You'd think that they would have learned SOMETHING from their earlier Sprint 700p MR release. What a nightmare that was, at least I got a free upgraded to the 755p when that Sprint MR rendered my 700p useless. WTF is up with Palm??? Love the form factor (now that they finally got rid of the stupid antenna), but their support of their devices SUCK. And while I'm b!tching, where's the damn wifi??? Or how about some real java support??? Better yet, how about you just fix my damn Bluetooth!!! Oh, a flash would be nice too...
What the story doesn't say is that the Verizon 700wx has had endless problems connecting to the data network since it was released. I got one in January and have since had 4 replacements, all because they will not stay connected to the data network after a while and they won't reconnect without a reset. $45 a month for unlimited data that doesn't work when you need it to-- if I can't get Verizon to send me a Blackberry instead, it'll be worth it to eat the ETF.
This news would have been very helpful before I updated my 700wx oh well just hoping palm throws out the mobile 6 already.
I am suprised, I bought a 700wx used last month when my 730 died. Did the update as soon as I got it and haven't had a speck of problems. If the screen weren't so small I wouldn't even wait for the 6800 or 760
