So far there is no montly fee for the Garmin service. It's $2.99 for a 24 hour rental period. The GPS enabled GoogleMaps is still available free of charge. I think they'll probably be guaging the demand for the Garmin service and if demand is high, they'll probably do a longer rental period for the service.
