Unlocked iPhones now available in Hong Kong -- cost arm, leg
Just how bad do ya want an iPhone, punk? Yeah, we're talking to you, Mr. Hong Kong Resident, because they're now available in your neck of the woods -- if the price is right, anyway. Supposedly unlocked examples of Apple's mobile gem (which we're starting to believe is really possible, even if this picture doesn't definitively prove it) are floating around the territory for a stiff $2,000, though that number falls to $750 if you can supply the phone yourself and bring it in just for the unlocking service. Still, though, you'd better really want one.

Are those dollar amounts in US or HK? If they are in US, then yes, it does cost an arm and leg, but since the exchange rate is still near 7.5, that makes is US$100 for the unlock... which isn't really that steep considering what some people pay for unlocking services on PDA-like phones in the US.
I don't understand the desire for the iPhone - it doesn't have the 3G technology of the new Symbian and WM6 phones, yet the US and other major territorys are moving into 4G tech? Plus it doesnt work with gloves :-p
In mainland China we can get the unlocked iphone for 8000 RMB. A pretty good copy of an iphone is only 2000.
I must say, it isn't often that someone across the pond wants a phone here in the states. I mean with the plethora of phones they have available they we can only dream and drool about. Steve must have done something right!
Actually in HK it costs USD2000 for a brand new unlocked iPhone, this week.
