Got the same error when trying to upgrade my 1.0.1+installer.app to 1.0.2. Had to restore to factory default and lose all personal data. However, after restore, my iphone is now 1.0.2 (verified from settings/general/about).
installer.app doesn't seem to work on 1.0.2 now. Step #8 ended up with error "failed RecoveryDittoFileCopy: Operation Ditto Failed" then quit.
Looks like installer.app has been updated. Now the firmware version list includes 1.0.2. Installing it now and hope it work. (the mac installer needs to download some 91MB file...)
