It's primarily used when there is no appreciable R&D capital which is/can be spent. We're witnessing one of the saddest corporate funeral processions in recorded history.

backbeat

Comments on Palm's Ed Colligan responds to our open letter!

I read the response from Palm. I'd like to know what points they disagree with you on, and what crack are they on -- "it is very early in the evolution of the smartphone and there is enormous opportunity for us to innovate. We have only just begun to fight!" This statement would have been true 7 years ago, maybe...

PH0ENIX

Comments on Palm's Ed Colligan responds to our open letter!

I'm glad they responded. With the amount of visibility the open letter got, it was exactly the right thing to do. Talk is cheap, as noted upthread, but it was the right move and I'm glad they did it. Here's hoping you don't die, Palm. Miss you!

kookoobirdz

Comments on Palm's Ed Colligan responds to our open letter!

yea, at least he responded. I doubt the large majority of companies out there would have done that. Would be awesome if they agreed to an interview on the future of Palm though. Hell, not only is this free good publicity, but, by reply via email, it also shows they know how to use technology.....now, just show us they know how to design it.

Once again, the reply was good but future plans--or at least a not-too-subtle-but-legal-nor-marketing-will-complain hint--about something upcoming wouldn't hurt. You know, to keep our interest.

And what comments could they have *not* agreed with? They *all* were dead-on and were vocalized non-offensively or at least nicer than I would've....but then again, he probably wouldn't replied to mine....maybe legal would've, though.

derX

Comments on Palm's Ed Colligan responds to our open letter!

Palm lost it many years ago.

They have lost touch with market many years ago.

Most talented developers went to (sadly) Mobile Windows many years ago.

And now it is just too big gamble for them. Because heck the things are expensive. MSFT saturated market with PocketPCs - brining their prices down considerably, tapping into new development talents in emerging markets.

Palm lost it. And I doubt they would regain what they have lost: trust of market, trust of developers.

P.S. And what the heck of the response is that??? I have worked in many small/mid/big businesses. Saying that you have forwarded something to higher ups is as good as saying 'f*** off'. That means just another point during lunch conversation: "did you read the memo?" If the guys would have said "I have started drafting new business plan" - that might have meant something. Though I wouldn't be holding my breath: Palm to me with such high prices and backward technology was as good as non-existent anyway.

Ihar `Philips` Filipau

Comments on Palm's Ed Colligan responds to our open letter!

Good job!
