Those camped out in Puerto Rico or the US Virgin Islands (lucky...) now have yet another wireless plan option courtesy of
Sprint, and although that "unlimited" keyword may look enticing, it's enclosed in quotes for a reason. The firm's newest unlimited calling plan was reportedly developed specifically for the Sprint Caribbean market and is available for new and existing customers. The $49.99-per-month plan "includes all local and long distance calls received or generated within the local Puerto Rico and USVI coverage area, as well as long-distance calls from [Sprint] mobile to mobile." Of course, one call to the US mainland, and you'll be hit with a $0.25-per-minute fee as well as an additional $0.69-per-minute if you're roaming, so we'd keep it local if we were you.
My dad lives in the Virgin Island and always say Sprint are thieves. Well here we go again. This plans sucks no hell.
Can you call a 1-800#. Most people in PR and the VI need to call the main land.
This doesn’t surprise me at all. They are reacting to the competition. Years ago the cellphone service and rates in Puerto Rico was like the one here in the states untill one day out of nowhere Movistar (an european company) came with the concept of unlimited incoming call for everybody. Six months after AT&T (Cingular then), Sprint, Centennial and Verizon Wireless did the same because they start to loose subscribers. Like a year ago this same company launch the unlimited local call at anytime for $39.99 and Centennial followed them, then Verizon and now Sprint and it won’t surprise me that AT&T will do the same soon.
People,,, this companies are the same ones we have here in the states and they are just following an European concept brought by Movistar cause otherwise they will be loosing subcribers. I’m always keeping an eye on T-Mobile here in the states because they are also an European company and they know this concept works great since in Germany they have something similar. At the moment they still using AT&T towers so I think it won’t be lucrative for them right now.
AT&T (Cingular) Puerto Rico doesn’t have unlimited calls at anytime (yet) but you can visit their website and check out the plan chart. All of them with at least unlimited incoming call.

Actually T-Mobile has their own towers in the US but they have roaming agreements with multiple carriers, including AT&T, for area's where they have no or spotty coverage.
