As it so often goes in this business, the adrenaline rush of
a good leaked image is quickly followed by the security felt from an official press release. And so it goes... meet the
8GB Nokia
N95, all
in black and all official. Feels good eh? We're still talking N95 specs -- 2.8-inch display, 5 megapixel camera, WiFi, GPS, microSD, and such -- only now with a hefty slab of hot, hot flash for all your media. Sure, slim is in but we can love a fatty too. Europe-first and ready for action in October for €560/$761.
Forgive me for being late to the party, but does this phone have A2DP and AVRCP? I know I'm the only person in the states that cares about that, but humor me :) Thanks.
The vanilla N95 does so I would assume it does too (they work a treat by the way).
Yup, AD2P and AVRCP. Quadband GSM, but only UMTS-HSPDA 2100.
Quad-band? HSDPA? In terms of 3.5G tech?
Yep HDSPA ie 3,5G just like the N95
This new N95 8GB has a 2.8 inch screen, the original N95 has a 2.6 inch screen. 0.2 inches is actually a fair bit larger.
there is no microSD or any card slot here so fix ur article
So am I supposed to get excited about this? Compared to the N81 it looks like a chunky junky bit of last year's tech, and it's not like they are doing us any favors with the price either. Don't get me wrong, I'm always thrilled to see the US get any sort of phone with better specs then the freebie models you get with a new activation, but considering all the other phones Nokia released today just for Europe, I can't help but feel like the stepson that got a pair of really nice socks for Christmas when my golden child brother got a brand new 360 Elite and a bunch of games.
Nokia used to be such a mover and a shaker in the US market... when did they start treating us like that unwanted stepchild anyway? As far as announcements go, this feels more like being thrown a bone then being taken seriously as valued customer base.
welcome to our (european) world. 9/10 times it's the other way round, let us have this one please? :o)
Whilst the N81 may look the nicer of the two, it lacks the out-and-out power of the N95.
It doesn't have the same feature set - it's 384kbps UMTS as opposed to 3.6mbps+ HSDPA, it lacks EDGE, it has a 2mp camera instead of a 5mp camera, the screen is smaller, there's no GPS or included maps app and no TV-out. On top of that, the N95 is lighter and has better battery life.
And that's just stuff I can list off the top of my head...
One is a music-oriented phone and the other is a true, high-end smartphone.
One thing I would like to know, does the 8GB N95 have the increased RAM that the US version does?
Ok, I've just moved to the states from Europe and want to get my hands on an N95 8GB. I'd be grateful for some advice:
Is there a service provider that has it on contract?
And if not, where can I get hold of one for the least Bucks?
Why not just make a 4"x4"x6" mobile with TV, DVD, HD-DVD/Blu-Ray, CD, Wi-Fi, Ethernet Slot, 5 USB. Throw in a 10 mp camera, with 15x optical zoom, and a handy cup holder. With a Coke included.
I mean, you're already on the way to that. It's all about the functionality. Not the amount of features.
If I win I promise to call you all every day, if that's how you feel.
