Beware brave
hardware unlockers -- and we mean that, you're brave to void warranty and risk handset failure to use the precious -- if your iPhone is at version 1.0 when you start your task updating it to 1.02 may erase all your hard work. Apparently Sergeij2000 over at the Hackint0sh discovered this the hard way while upgrading his unlocked iPhone and had to unlock it once again -- though he does mention that the modem did seem to stay unlocked. We expect the same will hold true for the
software unlocks once rolled out -- and likely
TurboSIM as well -- but hopefully a few clever solutions will appear to save us from the vicious circle we're bound to spiral into. Our only bit of advice for the short term is to let new updates soak for a few days letting the early adopters take the brunt of the grief.
I have updated my i phone now its locked. Anyone know how to unlock it ?
You know, I really feel so bad for all of you guys...
I just got back from a visit to Europe and this Iphone unlocking here in the U.S. is a joke. The government (Democrats or Republicans) are paid in millions for the phone companies to do this to us.
Europeans don't have this problem at all.
I could write several pages about this subject alone. But please, revisit what is being done to you by our so called democratic sociaty. Don't get me wrong. I love capitelizm but every one of you is geeting bent over every day day and are happy about it.
I was using the unlocked iPhone in Dubai since last 1 year. I updated the new firmware 2.2.1 in my phone last day, but it locked again. I spend lot of time to get a solution. Finally i got the solution. I have a set of files to solve this issue. If anybody have the same problem please mail me, i am glad to help you. My mail ID is darvinpappachan@yahoo.com.

Hi guys
Seeing you were so keen to "verify" the software unlock - are you going to be so keen to "verify" when the timeline goes past without release??
I think the 48-72 hour timeline given by iphonesimfree.com is just about up, isn't it?
Oz
You're kidding, right?
The video of them using an unlocked phone to call another, on the t-mobile network, SIM and all?
Sorry, but I don't recall Engadget ever lying before, and why would they lie about this?
Besides, what does your comment have to do with the hardware unlock?
Thought so.
The iPhone hacks couldnt be coming at a better time. As iPhone users travel in and out of ATT coverage, they may get hit with a nasty surprise. My brother spent about 10 days of July in Canada, with his iPhone. Yesterday his ATT bill arrived - $3,000! To see the whole story:
A box I could live with, the $3,000 iPhone bill I could live without. It will be interesting how ATT resolves this and other issues. The interesting thing he had been on a North American plan from Cingular/ATT for the last 3 years, it allowed for roaming in the US, Canada and Mexico for free.
I just spent 10 days in the Dominican Republic. I got back yesterday. I wasn't stupid enough to not check how much roaming will cost and rack up minutes/charges. I got another provider for my vacation and put the new number on my voicemail. This is not a problem with AT&T. There seems to be a problem with your friend, though.
Funny b/c the same thing happened to my brother over a year ago when they were still Cingular. As soon as his contract was up, he switched.
I'm not surprised by this, really. In terms of features, the iPhone is limited. I'm assuming that Apple held off on desirable features (MMS, Video Recording...) until they can strengthen the provider lock. I do hope the iPhone gets hacked more than the PSP. The main reason the PSP got hacked was because of no 3rd party support. With a phone with no Java, runs Mac OS X and no real 3rd party support, their phone should get hacked completely.
i just bought my iphone 2 days ago and when i plugged it into my pc itunes opened and automatically retored and updated to new 1.1.1....does anybody know how i can retore to 1.0.2 version?? i need help please
same with what happened to me... what did you do to unlocked your phone??? tnx
