An S60-less Nokia Eseries in the works?

We don't see how Nokia's business-savvy Eseries line could thrive without the benefit of a tested and true smartphone operating system to back it up, but if this picture is the real deal, that may very well be where we're headed. Just Another Mobile Phone Blog posted this picture of a rather plain looking candybar complete with Nokia branding and an "EXX" stamp in the upper right, typical for a preproduction device before Espoo's decided what model number to bestow upon it, sporting nary a single S60-specific key on its pad. Frankly, the phone looks cheap -- like knockoff cheap -- so we're holding out hope that this is some underground manufacturing outfit's idea of a bad joke, not a sign that S60 is leaving the Eseries behind.

Not complaining: the iPhone nonsense is fun, it just gets a little boring after a while.

You should have been here yesterday though: 5 stories out of 15 on the page were about the iPhone and another two non-iPhone stories mentioned the iPhone.

TUAW had the same iPhone-to-non-iPhone ratio but they have a better excuse being mostly Apple related after all.

Please, enlight me! How can you tell that this is not an S60 phone? Does the article says so? or is by hardware configuration that defaults to a s40 or another OS?

Anyone notice the delete key's symbol? Does it look like that of an apple keyboard or am I mistaken? I have only seen one on my cousin's mac.

Being an avid user of Nokia phones I notice several oddities with this pic.
1. It does have the standard Nokia 0 key (The lower case i with semi circle around it, that automatically opens your browser)
2. The bluetooth logo on the * key is something that has never been on a Nokia device,
3. The silent key being on the # is a Samsung feature. Never on Nokia.
4. The home key hinting at a full fledge OS rather than Symbian.
I'm calling hoax on this one. Nokia is doing so well (N95, N80, N81 and N73) with Symbian series 60 3rd edition so why leave it?

Oh in no way am I saying symbian is not full fledge. i use the N80 before that the 6133 and before that the 3650. I love symbian what I meant was an OS that has a home other than cell phones. I'm just saying through my Nokia history I am calling this phone fake.
