Palm kills the Foleo dead
We are seriously not going to take credit for this, but holy crap, Palm just cancelled the Foleo, just like we asked them to! Palm CEO Ed Colligan just posted a message to the company's official blog stating that they've decided to cancel the Foleo mobile companion "in its current configuration" in order to "focus all of our energies on delivering out next generation platform and the first smartphones that will bring this platform to market." In a way we're sort of disappointed that we'll never at least get to play with one and put it through its paces, but it's definitely the right move -- Palm needs to focus on one thing right now, and that's coming out with a category-killing smartphone. Not that they're giving up on the idea for good; Ed says that they'll do a "Foleo II" based on the new mobile platform they're already developing for their next generation of smartphones

That proves it, folks -- there IS a God.
Unreal - a company yanking a doomed product before it really kills them? I would think they will actually get a nice stock bump for this,
This is good news for actual Palm fans.
Made me feel like revisiting "How Palm Became Palm Again"
ZOMG!! Kudos to Colligan, Hawkins, Jesus and Santa Claus and Engadget!
Next stop Treo/Lifedrive with solid state hardrive/480x320 screen! Make it so!
This is missing a tag: inevitable.
Hell, if not for this headline would've just kept the words on the end.
"Palm dead"
And that, too, would've been tagged inevitable.

I must say, I am glad that this occured but I am even more pleased that they decided to rework the idea. It's not a bad one, just a flawed on in that aborted stage. I am hoping it gets better. It's kinda like the OGO for AT&T wireless, I thought the device, in concept, was good, but in execution was severely lacking. Now, they redid it and it's okay.
I am just Palm decided to put its priorities in order: "developing...their next generation of smartphones."
wow. Just yesterday I bumped into someone in the airport who turned out to be a Palm employee working on the Foleo. She said the release would be delayed, as she put away the device into a foam sleeve.
next stop for that little foam bag... the warehouse from raiders of the lost ark... huzzah to palm! HUZZAH!!
RATS! I was going to buy one and even evaluate for security to deploy to my users who could use something bigger than their BB's and WinMo's but smaller and lighter than their laptops for travel. That's just great. Palm, I still love you, but I was actually excited for this one.
You know I was ready to ditch Palm for good when my contract ends this month. I was so sick of their unstable OS, ancient bluetooth 1.2 and fat form factors. I was SURE they would never get their shit together then this happens and now I don't know what to think. I'm so confused. Palm, I wish I knew how to quit you :(
Ed Colligan: avid engadget reader.
I must say, since I bought my (HTC Apache) PPC-6700 a few years ago I've become a fan of HTC with their development after loving Palm products for the longest time.
Ed's response to Engadget's letter to Palm made me smile.
Ed's message to everyone on Foleo made me say "My next phone may be a palm." If you asked me if I thought that yesterday I would have laughed.
Welcome back Palm, we missed you.
just checkin
I wonder how much any Foleo's that they have already manufactured are going to go for on Woot?
Probably the $200 it should have sold for. :)
From a variety of sources it seems like Palm is going through some real internal shakeups as well.
It's about time!
Ahhhhh. Man, do I feel better. Full marks to Palm for not persisting with folly. New OS and skinny form factor and they're back in the game. Go, Palm.
I have to say though, the internal shakeup stuff had better do the trick and last them a while. This 4 years adrift crap has made them seem like a very bad place to invest. With fatness and Foleos, the future looked bleak. Gonna have a look at those financials and keep an eye on this product pipeline. Might be bargain time, stockwise.
