So last Friday we got two things from iPhoneSIMfree: the
demo app of their "retail" software SIM unlock solution, and the promise that it would be available for purchase today. We can't confirm that everyone's already received their iPhone unlocks, but we did get to test the final consumer software version today -- the very same thing people all over will be paying to unlock their devices with -- and, not surprisingly, it works like a charm. In other words, while we can't vouch for any of
the vendors selling the software, we can vouch for the software itself working exactly as advertised. We've got the unlock on video, which we'll be posting shortly.
Now we just wait and see if the next Firmware update from Apple undoes it or at least prevents a locked iPhone from being unlocked.
I wouldnt be surprised if apple has another firmware update set up and ready to go for when this went live lol. Information has been floating around for a week or so if not longer now.
i feel dumb asking this but what are the benefits of unlocking the iphone?
People who dont want AT&T service can pop another sim in there and use the Iphone pretty much wherever with whomever they want to.
I agree. Until the iPhone offers more than EDGE, why bother?
hopefully it works in India
I might be mistaking but the iPhone didn't have a sim-slot, right?
@DryGoatAir:
You are smoking crack rock. :-) All GSM phones have SIM slots. iPhone included; I believe it is on the top of the phone.
I'm a little confused- I've read all news, watched the videos, but after unlocking with IPSF, do you still have to do a "fake activation" with ATT? Maybe once you buy the software there's better instructions?
