iUnlock released: the first free, open source iPhone SIM unlock software
It looks like the battle's officially over between iPhoneSIMfree and the numerous unique groups of open source hackers trying to software SIM unlock the iPhone. As we've been following in our previous post on the topic, earlier this afternoon iUnlock, the first free, open source iPhone SIM unlock app, was released to the underground just 74 days after the iPhone's release. Developed by the iPhone Dev Team, it's not for the faint of heart and it takes a little longer than iPhoneSIMfree's method, but it works. To pull this off you'll need iUnlock + nor + the .fls file, which is available in ZIPs all over. We've got the app here, but it doesn't have all the files necessary. Good list of links here, or try here, here, here, here, and here.
For the how-to just hit up one of those guides down below. Zero guarantees, people! Big ups to the iphone.unlock crew, Draken, and, of course, the iPhone Dev Team. Just don't whine to us if your iPhone gets bricked. Let us know in comments if it works for you!
Update: iPhone Dev Team's HaRRo is promising a GUI version in a few hours, so fingers crossed!
Update 2: We've confirmed! We'll get you all the juicy proof in a few, but we have indeed managed to software unlock an iPhone with iUnlock. Also, HaRRo says the app should be out "very soon" to make this easier on the noobs.

Just unlocked my iphone and this unlock solution is working !!!
I used this method and everything did as it should but when i insert any sim. It says insert an unlocked and valid sim to activate iphone. I even get that red circle at the top right cornor of the phone icon, Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.
Worked like a charm. Used all the tools and instructions from http://iphone.unlock.no/ and was able to unlock it within 25 minutes. Tested with a T-mo sim and voila. Sorry for the one who paid for the software as it was only a matter of time.
restored and used the unofficailly instructions.. got an error after AT+CLCK="PN",0,"00000000" but still continued and now it works. Only thing that doesn't is EDGE with t-mobile.. anyone know a work around for that. As my e61 worked fine with t-mobile edge when browsing full pages. Absolutely great work.
Does apple make it mandatory to update the software on the phone when there is an update available?
One thing I do not get. is it possible to get a 1.02 update w/o Att activation?
Yes, you need to put the iPhone into recovery mode and then connect it to iTunes and it will let you update and restore. Look out though, the firmware file is 92 meg, so letting iTunes download the file for you sux it takes forever -- and while it was downloading, my phone would time out of recovery mode. Some mirrors have the file available for download and all you have to do is put it in you/library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates and then do the restore. iTunes will see that you have the file and won't try downloading it.
The word on the street has it that Harro's GUI is just a rename of the beta version of the full-fledged team's effort to be released shortly - Erica's GUI.
Hi,
I did try it and it's working.. but I have a problem ,my iphone won't connect to the itunes .i am using the 7.3.054. so I can't sync my iphone.
as I never update to a newer version itunes just in case the phone will fail to work.
Unlocked it last night! Thanks to everyone who worked to release this hack.
I did the unlock and now all I get on the front of the phone is Activate Iphone connect to iTunes, and under that it says Incorrect SIM insert an unlocked and valid SIM to activate iPhone. But I put back in the SIM that came with it and it still won't recognize it. When i try to do a restore it tells me that AT&T doesn't recognize this SIM. Any ideas?
